So here's the America we live in. Not the "freedom and justice for all" fantasy they sell you between Big Mac commercials and Fourth of July flyovers—but the real America, where a 19-year-old lesbian named Kady Grass gets the absolute shit kicked out of her in a McDonald’s bathroom in Illinois for existing as a queer woman.

She flew in from Delavan, Wisconsin—just trying to see her little cousin’s choir concert. Innocent enough, right? But after the show, they stop at a McDonald’s in Carpentersville, and Kady heads to the women’s bathroom. When she comes out, two scumbags—one adult, one minor—decide they’re gonna play judge, jury, and executioner because of who she is. They hurl homophobic slurs, corner her, and when she refuses to shrink, they beat her unconscious. Fractured nose. Hemorrhaged eye. Stomped while she was already down. A hate crime in every goddamn sense of the word.

Now, let me ask you something. If two gay teenagers stomped a straight kid into the hospital while screaming slurs, would prosecutors hesitate for even five seconds to call it a hate crime? Would Fox News run it for weeks? You bet your ass they would. But in this case? Nah. Kane County’s State’s Attorney’s Office has the nerve to press battery charges—like she got in a bar fight. No hate crime charges. No acknowledgment that this was ideological violence.

This isn’t just about a fight. It’s about power. About what kind of violence the state chooses to see—and what it chooses to ignore. Because if you’re queer, trans, disabled, or BIPOC in this country? The message is crystal clear: your suffering is negotiable. Your safety is optional. And your blood is cheap.

Meanwhile, people like Kady get told to "heal up and move on"—while the cowards who attacked her get to be treated like misunderstood teenagers. A GoFundMe has to be set up just to cover her medical bills. That’s the system working exactly as designed—let the victims scrape and beg while the institutions shrug their shoulders.

This is the machinery of silence. And if you’re not pissed off yet, you're part of the goddamn problem.
