كنت احكي مع صاحبتي عن العطور القديمة الليَّ كانو امهاتنا يستخدمونها فيها شيء مميز وَ مختلف واحاول اتذكر عطر محدد بس ما قدرت .كنت ناسيه الشكل والاسم بس اتذكر الريحة الحلوه . بعدها بكذا يوم كَلمتني صديقتي تقولي افتحي الباب راح يوصلك المندوب معاه اغراض لك ..

لما فتحت العلبة ورشيت من العطر حسيت الحضن الحنون اللي كنت احس فيه من أُمي حبيبتي رجع لي وبكيت ، ولما احن لها او ابغى احسها جنبي احطه شوي منه على المخدة ..

أنا آمنت ان الروائح و الاغاني تعيد إحياء الذكريات القديمه المدفونه ..

DO YOU KNOW - Quelques Fleurs, 1912

                      Today we live in a world full of complex scents, created either by artistic conviction or a desire to capture something not found in nature. It's hard to imagine that there was a time when the only perfume available was that of the single note variety. Rose, Gardenia, Lavendar, Orange Blossom and so on.  The thought of combining any of these ingredients never even crossed the perfumers mind until one fragrance house decided to  revolutionize the industry - Houbigant, who in 1912 did the unthinkable. They created the first ever multi-floral bouquet - Quelques Fleurs. 

Quelques Fleurs has long been recognised as a landamrk innovation that established a totally new fragrance classification and influenced other compositions for decades afterwards, including many of today's important scents. 

Composed by perfumer Robert Bienaime, the top notes include orange blossom, green notes, tarragon, bergamot, lemon and citruses. Middle notes are centred around carnation, tuberose, orchid, lilac, orris root, jasmine, heliotrope, ylang-ylang, lily-of-the-valley, rose, violet and iris with a base of sandalwood, tonka bean, amber, musk, civet, oak moss, honey and vanilla. 

Famoulsy worn by Diana, Princess of Wales on her wedding day, Quelques Fleurs is still a beautiful composition but is definitely for those with old-fashioned tastes. While I can appreciate the scent, I just don't love it. What's curious about its description as a multi-floral bouquet is the lack of florality about it. To me the most obvious notes are the spices and herbs that help link the elements together. A peppery, dusty feeling comes off of the scent which oftentimes makes me think of an upmarket funeral parlor.

Now then, why do I present this to you for consideration, if I don't love it? Because like a lot of fragrances, it comes down to personal opinion and our love of specific notes fostered in childhood. There is something wonderfully wood polishy about it and at the same time if I smelled this on a woman of a certain age I would find it elegant and dare I say it, a little grand. 

Perhaps my own resistance to the scent comes from the fact that no matter which way you slice it, this is not a man's best friend.
