I love perfume ads. 100% of the time I have no clue what is happening

Hi, i am sending you this because it was a 3am when i thought of it.
I started wondering why perfume ads were so ridiculous. It turns out it's because perfumes don't do anything major and so advertisers do everything to make it look like it does. And there was this quote from SOME advertising genius that said "scent is tied to sex" and most advertising uses such imagery to advertise a scent. (What does Zendaya on a unicorn running up a clif with Sia as the background music have to do with this idk) i never paid much attention to them and then it hit me
"What is a perfume ad, to an asexual"
And then I wanted a second opinion from the an other ace person , here i am
A perfume ad to an asexual is unhelpful, because I have NO idea what 99% of these are supposed to smell like, either from the name or from the commercial, the only one that’s immediately apparant is Marc Jacob’s Daisy.
A perfume ad to an asexual is boring, because they’re literally all the same ad with the same attractive people falling over themselves to be in each other’s presence.
A perfume ad to an asexual is uncomfortably objectifying, to both men AND women models, as if zooming in and hugging the curves and cuts of their bodies and their wide eyed, open lipped expressions are supposed to make me want to spray a faintly scented water on my wrists.
A perfume ad to an asexual is confusing, because half the time you can’t tell if it’s supposed to be a ‘fragrance for him’ or a ‘fragrance for her’ because they’re literally all framed the same way, and you either can’t tell who is persuing who OR the woman is always the persued one, even in the ‘fragrance for him’ commercials.
A perfume ad to an asexual is silly, because perfume doens’t even smell that good/that strong, and THIS is how you’re advertising it??
The only valid perfume campaign is the one where they overplayed all the tropes of perfume ads to an absurd degree, while the male lead narrated said tropes while smoldering at the camera, and always ended with “because I’m in a fragrance ad” it was the funniest shit ever and now for the life of me I can’t find on the internet who that was or what that campaign is, but trust me, it was hilarious.
why do perfume commercials have to be Like That
why can’t we just have an ad that says “It smells like lilac, buy it at these retailers”
