“La Quema de Judas” is tradition that takes place on Holy Saturday in a way of celebration of Jesus’ Resurrection. As we know Judas was the angel that betrayed Jesus with a kiss and later became who we know as the Devil or Satan.
Keeping with tradition, the burning of Judas usually is the burning of a character made our of cardboard or paper mache much like a pinata. Usually the character that burned is the devil or a public figure who may take on the characteristics of an evil person, like a politician who may be strongly disliked for their political agenda. So the burning that takes place is related to what is currently happening in society and it allows for people to releases some frustration or anger they have with on going political or social problem in their country or community.
