So lets talk about bras. I haven’t worn one in 5 years. I used to wear them because I thought I had to, I was warned as a young teen that it is TimeTM and to not go out without one, and that I need one in order to Have Normal Breast Shape. (?)
At some later age I developed symptoms of chest pain, hyperventilation and inability to breathe properly if anything was pressing into my torso. After one time I fell off of a bike fainting due to the pressure, I decided no more bra. Looking normal in public simply couldn’t be worth this much danger.
I’m sure we all saw that picture with the african woman who had very relaxed, soft breasts, compared to a firm-breasted woman next to her, with them laughing and observing their differences, and the caption said this is how breasts are developed in communities without bra-wearing. And I thought, well isn’t that the normal way for breasts to develop then? Why are we doing all this work training them to be firm and perky and up there in our neckline when they’re supposed to just chill and relax and not be in our way? I started doubting our ‘normal’ and was kinda curious to see if my breasts would just relax and assume their natural state if I stopped pestering them with bras.
Five years later.. their shape did not change in any way I could observe. They get lax only if I’m malnourished but go back to being plump if I’m eating enough. So now I’m even more confused about what is natural. Would they look different if I hadn’t been wearing a bra at all? And if they can’t change back then why are bras still considered necessary? I understand in situations where the weight of breasts causes back pain, or for the sake of sports or physical activity they need to be held still to avoid chafing (ouch, got that while running), but other than these necessities, what gives? Are we seriously doing this for the aesthetics? So males can’t complain if they’re moving around when we walk?
It’s now weird for me to see breasts held up too close to the neck because I know they’re not naturally supposed to be up there, does it benefit anyone in any way? Wouldn’t it be easier to get used to normal breast position and consider that the ultimate way for breasts to exist? Bc it’s natural and they don’t need to resemble anything they’re not in order to be normal? And in most cases there’s no need for them to be appealing bc they’re a female body part, not an aesthetic. To me (a lesbian) they’re appealing in their most comfortable state. (soft and having sensitive spots to kiss)
