It was weird. It wasn't spicy like I was expecting. The jalapeno flavor was there but there was none of the heat. Not terrible but not something I'd try again.

Having spent the overwhelming majority of his life engrossed in Gotham's criminal underworld, trust was a hard thing for Oswald Cobblepot to come by. Even after hanging up his top hat and umbrella, it was difficult for him to put more than an ounce of faith into another. Everyone always had some plot, some angle they were working. Edward, though, had always been different. At least with him. Nygma was one of the few people Oswald felt he could rely on, especially after a parallel journey towards the right side of the law. But still, trust his friend though he may, he did not put much weight into rumors.

He hears enough of them standing there, washing his serving glasses.

"I dunno, Eddie. Seems kinda fishy to me." The (former) Penguin cracks a toothy grin. "Guys creepin' around at night is one thing, but hidin' out in caves? Who the hell does that in this city?"

The question, while rhetorical in nature, prods at a certain part of the Penguin's brain that he can't force himself to ignore. He's stood on both sides of the metaphorical fence, both unsure of where his next meal would come from, as well as eating his fill until his belly has grown round and soft. Edward likely doesn't want to hear him ramble on about financial inequality and the lasting psychological trauma bestowed by poverty, and yet, Oswald just can't help himself.

"People are scared of losin' it. They've either never had it, or they've never been without it. It's human instinct to horde what you really care about, whether it makes sense or not. Holding onto it, even if it means skipping out on other things, is just in our nature."

He cracks a smirk after a moment and reaches up to grab the lapels of his coat. It's an expensive, exquisite thing, with a fur lined collar and coattails that drape down the backs of his legs.

"But me? I ain't scared a' nothin'. Spendin' and savin' responsibly."
