In an alternate timeline where they stay roommates:
Nigel is a very light sleeper, he sleeps very little too, and when he finally does, he talks in his sleep and makes random noises and twists and turns all the time.
At first, Alex is annoyed, pulls his pillow over his head, can't be assed to listen. Weeks pass, (they hadn't gone to Nigel's house yet) and he hears Nigel mumble about some guy named Jack in his sleep. And he finds himself feeling jealous because the dream sounds explicit, but blames it on the fact that he's tired (ooh denial).
When Nigel first calls him Jack under his house, it doesn't immediately occur to Alex what that implies. It's only when he hears Nigel talking and whimpering sinful things in his sleep that he realises.
(Then he wakes Nigel up and they go at it nasty style btw.)
