I’ve never actually played the game I just know it was really popular a few years ago and has a big modding community, which sounds pretty cool
The thing I don’t like about things like using A.I. to make art or using ChatGPT to write essays is that they doesn’t allow you to enter the flow state.
There are many reasons why I will never use A.I. in my work, but one of the biggest reasons is because it just isn’t as rewarding as making something from scratch. People who use A.I. don’t understand what it’s like to experience the feeling of progression you have when you finally figure out that one plot point in your story, or when you solve that complicated math problem, or when you finally get that program you’ve been writing to work properly.
Sure, a blank canvas and/or word document can be pretty daunting at times; but after you conquer that fear, there’s really not much stopping you from actually making the thing. I think the reason why most people use A.I. Art is because they’re intimidated by that first step and are afraid of making something bad. So what if it’s bad? You think every artist started out making masterpieces? Heck no! They probably started out making crappy kids drawings and horribly written stories/essays. The joy in creating is watching yourself get better and better over time, learning new things, trying different techniques, and looking at things from a different point of view.
So make that crappy drawing or song or video. Make that horrible essay or story. It doesn’t have to be good, it just has to be yours. The joy of creating doesn’t come from a perfect product, it comes from problem solving and innovation. The joy of making art comes from actually using your brain.
