Whoops. Another Scott Meta--this time with DC Comic Nerdiness
I keep seeing on my dash "WTH? WHY DOESN'T SCOTT GO ALL ALPHA ON THEIR ASS?"
This might be tangent-y,but if Stiles identifies with Batman, then Scott is totally Superman.
Sure, people like to pit the two heroes against each other or compare them. Batman is the 'realistic' one. Superman is the 'boy scout.' Batman is more 'interesting.' Superman is nothing without his powers.
Not true. If you think that, then you're reducing what Superman/Scott and Batman/Stiles ARE. They're even better together. They're true friends. They respect each other. They may butt heads on perspectives, but they see the good in each other and their strengths.
Sometimes when people compare Superman and Batman they forget Clark Kent IS intelligent. He knows people think he's naive. He isn't. It can be very difficult. It can be hard. Superman/Scott may not wear his angst like Dean Winchester with a gruff, world weariness, or hide it with sarcasm or biting remarks like Batman/Stiles does sometimes, but that doesn't mean it isn't there. He's not just the muscle.People forget how much restraint and concentration it takes him not to break or kill. He holds back because he knows he IS capable of monstrous actions. He's come close.
Wanting to find a better way besides violence or anger or bloodshed is not 'soft.' In some ways,it's foolish and harder and maybe even braver because hope--hope is not a promise. It's a wish. It's holding on. It's believing. It's searching for the 'what can I do with what I have' amidst the helplessness.
Superman/Scott has his own burdens. Superman. One True Alpha. They're both titles other people have put upon them. They're impossible standards. There's no way to live up to them.Scott may be comfortable with his werewolf status enough to mentor Liam, but he knows very little about what being a True Alpha actually means. He doesn't always know what to do or what the right thing is.Scott is aware of this. He's said it himself. Yet people look to him for inspiration and hope.He can't shove the responsibility off to someone else. He tries his best.
We needs heroes in fiction like Stiles AND Scott. The world is full of pain and wrongs that needs to be righted. It needs people willing to point out the flaws and people willing to say we can do better, we can be better. At the end of the day, Stiles and Scott care deeply and fight fiercely. They may differ on perspectives and methods, but they’re dedicated to the same fight.
