i can excuse modern aus where the author calls a character a “librarian” without establishing whether or not they’ve earned any degrees in information science, but I draw the line at the character talking about how it’s a “quiet” job with “time to work on my novel”

Whump Questions 🧐

Okay, so very random but extremely necessary question for all the whumpers out there.

“Is there a specific type of whump that you just can’t enjoy?”

Now I don’t mean specific tropes, like joints being pushed the wrong way (can’t stand it) or broken bones.

I mean like, I prefer a quieter whump. When characters are semi conscious and their head moves side to side because they are having a nightmare or something. Also, when characters have panic attacks, asthma attacks, something where they can’t breathe and they panic? Beautiful. I like when the character grits their teeth, arches their back on the floor, but then whimper and whine. Just something about them having to keep quiet in a situation makes me 😏

BUT, I also like loud whump. The screams when characters have to let out the tension because of the absolute agony they are in, the loud groans/moans they let go of when something hurts so bad that they can’t keep it in. 💕

But the one thing that just really doesn’t do it for me, is COMEDIC WHUMP. When a show is a comedy and always “lighthearted” but then they have the most beautiful characters play completely whumpable characters AND IT JUST EITHER NEVER HAPPENS OR HAPPENS FOR COMEDIC ENJOYMENT. Makes me 😡

All the power went out in my house for several hours before I fell asleep and when I tell you I have never heard such silence in my life. It was quieter than my noise canceling headphones. Lying in my pitch black room was like a sensory deprivation tank. Just absolute nothing
