“I mean. You’re dressed like a cop, for one.” Loaded questions like these makes her think of college parties with friends that suddenly go down a dark path after one too many drinks. Questions asked in the dark as Nate’s weight shifts in the mattress, still clouded with memories of past tours. Her neighbor as they sit in the backyard on a cool autumn day; hinting of the knowledge of secrets buried by a government unfeeling to its people in the days leading up to the Great War.
Do you think I’m a bad person?
“Does it matter to you what I think?” She finally answers. The air smells thick with smoke as the fire burns through its tinder. “Plenty of folks see things in black-and-white. Others see it like a sliding scale. But at the end of the day, what I think about is if you’ll end up helping or hurting the people around here.”

“Oh, I’ll bet.” There’s a lilt in that raspy voice, something entirely humored, and also entirely disbelieving. It doesn’t help that as Claire is busy checking to make sure there are enough snacks and trays set out for everyone, Ashley’s already going through the cabinets of the bar to check the stock. Her viewpoint is mostly unchanged on politics, but she’ll have to admit -- Anderson did get something out of being propped up on the Council. And more than a lot of somethings from all those diplomats he ends up rubbing shoulders with, considering the amount of unopened bottles of wine. “Hey, skipper -- just how massive and incredibly safe are these windows here? You know, just in case you decide to blast through those, too.”
