How did u decide to become vegetarian

Honestly, I did it on a whim just because I could. I was 13 ish and talking to a vegetarian friend and had a moment of "...I eat basically no meat already. I could very easily cut it out entirely. what the hell, why not?" and then did.

at this point i dont eat meat more because an object in motion stays in motion than anything. and because the original statement of my family not eating much meat remains true. and also because in the years since I developed ocd related to food contamination and I have Fear over meat not being properly prepared and making me sick

so tbh at some point i'll have to eat meat again as part of getting rid of that obsession bc ocd is not a good reason to do anything. or like i'll have to more seriously eat meat. i'm not a 100% strict vegetarian; i've eaten meat in the past 8 years several times.

but anyways! it was nothing serious lmao. we were literally in the back of a bus on a field trip and I went ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Can we hear more about the racist neighbor quil lore?

Sure! When I was 6-7, we moved to CO so my dad could go to grad (?) school, and lived in this co-op esque place. Which meant there were a few rules, one being not to smoke. Our neighbor, an old white guy, did not follow this rule.

My dad pointed it out or told him to stop, something along those lines (I was 7, okay). There's kids here, after all. And my dad is visibly brown. Old white guy did not like being told to stop smoking by a brown man.

So, he reported my dad to the police for having inappropriate photos/videos of my sister and I (2 and 7, at the time; light enough to pass as white). His evidence? Vibes. (Little more to it, but the key component is there was literally nothing to find because he made it up!!)

Unfortunately, he reported this to the co-op police instead of city, and they never got anything interesting, so they jumped at this. Confiscated all our home videos, searched the apartment, etc. Took months longer than they should've to complete the investigation. And also called CPS

There was a whole debacle about actually getting in contact with CPS, because we were out of town when they wanted to come by, which the investigators said wouldn't be a problem, but apparently was! because CPS thought my parents were avoiding them and it made them much more aggressive and suspicious when we got back from out of town and realized Oh Fuck they were calling and coming by and we didn't know !!

but anyway. they finally come by when we're home, and they take little me aside to question me. ask me whether I like my parents, if there's anything I don't like, what I wish they wouldn't do, any secrets, standard is this kid being abused questions (i was not).

by the end they realize...uh. these kids are fine. nothing's going on here. and all the videos the police confiscated turn up completely fine. on account of the accusations were literally all made up. no legal action taken, investigation closed, etc.

we, however, did not stick around. moved again immediately, and my dad never did finish (or even start...?) those studies. we were in CO for less than a year, and the investigation was like...7-8 months? so it must've started pretty soon after we moved in

so that's the story of how i was questioned by cps when i was seven because of our racist neighbor <3

Didn’t you have multiple associates or something before going to college. How did that happen?

I did; officially, I graduated high school with six associates degrees and three certificates. In practice I was one class away from one more (they canceled it my last semester). I set the record, though I don't know if anyone's beaten it yet

I went to a dual credit high school, which for me meant instead of electives (art, theater, etc) I took courses at the local community college (the hs was located on campus). Those counted both towards my hs elective requirements and towards associates degrees.

At my hs, all courses were covered by the district. The only limit was how many courses I could handle--and it also covered summer. So essentially I took full advantage of this situation and wrung everything out of them I could. I took more than other students each semester and a full 5 over the summer, when we were only required to take one.

The way things worked out (I'll spare you finicky details), I got about 9 semesters worth of classes fully covered. This included core requirements, so now that I've moved on to uni I didn't needed any basic math/science/composition/etc courses and could go right to the interesting ones. it has created some paperwork/administrative nightmares through because my records are so weird

So, essentially, my high school was a little atypical, but there's various other dual credit/dual enrollment programs that do the same thing :)

I do! I don’t wear them 24/7, just when I need to see something far (movie, driving, whiteboard)

I actually got new frames recently—still need to confirm the prescription’s right, but hopefully they are

ok clarification I read that poll as “when do you /usually/ wear shorts not when will you first wear them but I honestly just really like the feel of pants and to me it’s easier to roll up the pants when you’re hot instead of not being able to warm up your legs any way when you’re cold. also dress codes play a big role for me since most of my shorts don’t meet the length limit. but yeah that’s my pants pov since you were curious.

Now turning the question back on you! Why do you like shorts? (more specifically what makes you like them enough to wear them in 30 degree weather?!)

We could not be more different I actively hate the feeling of pants and ESPECIALLY the feeling of rolling them up.

It's a sensory thing. I hate the resistance fabric gives when you move. Every time you move you can feel it, so I try to wear things that are as minimally covering as possible. Short shorts, tank tops--though half the time when I'm home I don't even wear a shirt. I drew a comparison between my sister and I a couple years ago and it still holds true

I hate it enough I will choose to be cold instead of wearing pants. My strategy instead is to wear a hoodie/zip up; if i'm warm enough up top it'll compensate for cold legs. If it's really cold I'll suck it up, but the moment I can I'm putting shorts on again.

I will say, I do wear tights with my shorts when it's colder. Which is tolerable because 1. fashion and 2. it's thin and form fitting. And while leggings are also form fitting, they're too thick and give me dysphoria. Skirts/dresses are equally unpleasant there's too much movement

And personally dress codes haven't been a consideration since middle school, but I do understand how that factors into others' clothing choices.

I have one (1) pair of shorts I wear everywhere I go and 3-4 near identical pairs of lounge shorts I wear at home. i love my shorts #myshorts <3

Why did you have to get a plastic bag out of a tree? How did that cause the injury?

Well you see there was a plastic bag that had been stuck in a tree across the street for like 2 or 3 years, and I was like. Someone should do something about this. Why not me?

So at like 6 in the morning one day I march out with the empty street as my witness, but quickly realize the branches are too high for me to easily climb.

Okay, what if I like. spear it down? i don't remember what spear-like object I grabbed--a firepit poker maybe? but i took it out there and went yeah i'll just jump and throw this directly vertically above me

the moment i go to throw i realize wait this is stupid of me, so i abort mid-jump and half-throw it. my attention is on where this thing is falling (very short of the bag, because i aborted the throw) and not at all on how i land

now, there's a crucial detail i haven't mentioned. this tree with the bag stuck in the branches is on an incline. and this incline is covered in rocks.

the poker does not hit me, but my feet do not catch me, and as i fall there's a sudden headrush as they hit the rocky incline. i sit for a moment and go. hmm. that was not ideal. and when i stand, putting weight on my foot hurts

thank GOD no one was around to see this, so i, humbled, return home (across the street). because WHAT was I thinking

and then I proceeded to walk on said broken foot for almost three days before i went and got xrays and confirmed it was broken.

that's how i broke my foot trying to get a plastic bag out of a tree (my dad later went and got it for me)
