The current knifecase situation is so tragically beautiful because they were literally designed as a duo and by leaving each other it proves that they have broken free of that code.
But that does not mean they want to leave

I've yet to see anyone point out that Van De Peer whitewashed Mortuga's character for the movie lmao
Oj's the only winner who doesn't have a prototype counterpart. Therefore, we must assume that Mephone got him right first try and so he is god's perfect child
Okay I GOTTA rave a bit about how good that reveal scene with Post It Note was.
Episode 17 spoilers under the cut
I have this freaky theory about how the blue ray works, and this is sorta me going on a limb here, but it's an idea I've been dancing around since ep2 dropped.
What if the way the blue ray works is that instead of simply preventing death for whoever it's used on, it postpones it? As in, um. y'know the way that if Test Tube wasn't hit by the blue ray, then the momentum would've shattered her on the ground? what if when (or if) the blue ray wears off, that momentum comes back? What if it's just paused the inevitable for her now? What if she's just running on borrowed time?
Maybe that's why Lightbulb is the only one that's been bluerayed. Maybe SHE almost shattered herself again, maybe she's running on borrowed time too. (Adam said that, "she NEEDS the blue ray or else she’s at risk of dying" ...maybe this is what he meant) (Actually, thinking about it, this would explain her "You see cracks?!" line to Test Tube in the first episode. Why would she be worried about cracks if she wasn't already in danger of breaking? Could just be a throwaway line though.)
Maybe that shimmering blue color isn't just a pretty side effect. Maybe it's a visible mark that they're dead girls walking.
I think the most heartbreaking part of Gphat to me isn't even the fact that Gps is dead. It's that Tophat's memory of them is forever poisoned because he will never know what really happened.
He held onto the fringe theory for so long, but even then it was a delusion to him. And he eventually had to move on. But no matter what he believes now, as long as the case is closed, Gps's memory will always be tainted for him.
No longer his friend, no longer the high school sweetheart. No longer his partner. Just someone he loved who was probably a murderer.
Someone he once knew whose pictures on the wall are now replaced.
It's not a question if Tophat ever moved on. It's a question of if he still trusts his memory of Gps, or if he should think fondly of someone who, as far as he knows, caused so much damage.
I think Gps knew that. Or they realized it, in that final second, seeing Tophat look so scared (of them). That part hurts, too, I think. He will never get the chance to prove his innocence. Their name will never be cleared.
And the memory of dancing with him in the school gymnasium is all that it is—a memory. One that Gps got to cherish so fondly one last time, that Tophat will look back on and wonder, what changed? How much of it was real? And maybe looking back on those memories hurts too much to think about. Maybe it's necessary to put the old photos away. Close that chapter for good.
It's the betrayal of being hurt by someone you loved, and the betrayal of leaving them in the past. I think that's what gets me the most about them.
The more we see of those news broadcasts, the more scared I am for Suitcase. Because we know that her killing Cobs was self defense, but to the rest of the world, he was Just Murdered. What's gonna happen when they find who's responsible for it?
THE FRUMPKIN SCENE? HOW DARE THEY MAKE ME CRY THE VERY FIRST EPISODE?? HELLOOOOO?????
