Do you know any resources for someone looking to get into quilting? I’m very interested in it but I don’t even know where to start,,
When I started I knew nothing about quilting myself, and only vaguely knew how to run a sewing machine! I basically saw a bag of fabric scraps for sale cheap in my favourite colours at the craft shop when I went in to buy yarn and knew I had to make something with it lol
I started with youtube tutorials of course. Jenny Doan from Missouri Star Quilt Company, Donna Jordan from Jordan Fabrics, The Midnight Quilt Show wtih Angela Walters, and TheCraftGemini.
May favourite to watch is Donna Jordan, her voice is calm and measured, she shows you step by step how to make patterns (excluding some measurement cuts when she isn't showing her free patterns because that isn't hers to give away), and I just generally enjoy her joy at quilting.
She passed away last year, but her husband who she ran her fabric company with, still puts out occasional videos. She has tons of stuff up though, I definitely recommend checking it out.
I then became a regular at the local quilt shop and found out there was a quilting guild and joined up. I think I had to to be the youngest there by twenty years, and I was thirty LOL
But all those ladies thoroughly enjoyed helping me when I got stuck on something! I went to weekend quilt retreats twice a year when I could, and kept in touch with everyone else on the phone and over facebook.
