Panoramic view of two bridges crossing the Mississippi River at Quincy, Illinois. At left is the Quincy Memorial Bridge, opened in 1930. By the 1980s the volume of traffic had become problems, and a new bridge was proposed--the bridge seen on the right, the Bayview Bridge, which opened in 1987. Traffic was divided between the two, with the Bayview carrying westbound traffic and the Memorial carrying eastbound.

The Elkton Hotel in Quincy, Illinois opened in 1924 as the new home for the city's Elks lodge. In 1949, the upper floors were converted into apartments. Ten years later the Patio Restaurant opened to accommodate guests and residents. Despite the appearance of that classic neon sign, the restaurant and apartment building have remained viable and were recently acquired by Quincy natives with family ties to the building and an appreciation of its history. It'd be nice to see that sign restored to its former glory.

The Quincy Bayview Bridge crosses the Mississippi River between Quincy, Illinois and West Quincy, Missouri, and is the focal point of Quincy's riverfront. It opened in 1987 to relieve the volume of traffic on the nearby 1930 Quincy Memorial Bridge; it now carries westbound traffic while the old bridge carries eastbound. Each night the bridge is illuminated by a computerized and versatile LED lighting system. More here.
