If anyone were to have stumbled across Frankenstein immediately after he made his discovery regarding the bestowing of life, they would have thought him entirely mad. The epiphany overcame him during one of his little study sessions in the cemetery; and, as you might well imagine, such a realization thrilled and overwhelmed him. He slid down, sat against the wall, and began either to sob or to laugh--it was quite impossible, even for him, to determine the sounds he was making. The notes that he hurriedly put down in his journal were harried and sloppy; they made perfect sense, however, to him. When finally he regained at least partial control over his outburst, he rose to his feet again, patted the cheek of the corpse he'd been examining, and reverently thanked the dead man.
