Subsolar abscess 😲

Here's the progress on this horse with chronic abscessing/quittor. Second photo is pre- heel trimming, but look how much the area has dried up! There are other sources of chronic disease in the foot (toe and medial bar) that are lagging behind a bit, but she is more comfortable on the foot. This horse has suffered from this condition for many years. Unfortunately, I can't convince the owners to get her on a strong antibiotic because the vet insists on a full set of radiographs first (as they should), and the owners can't afford that. This is a case where I have to do the best I can with what I have: resection, gravity, topical treatment, and a balanced trim. If I can improve her comfort even a little, then it is worth it.
