Q.E.D - An thus it is demonstrated
Just as many other detective manga (or manga, or detective stories in general) QED revolves around cases that are being solved by a detective and his sidekick that seems to never aged, even after 45 volumes.
But unlike any other, QED is loads with other tricks upon its sleeves. Not just tricks which are being used in the cases, but also tricks in how the author tells its story.
I've been really impressed with how well the author crafted case after case without making me bored. And even after 45 volumes I'm still excited everytime a new volume is out.
Unlike a particular popular detective manga, without being to dramatic and unrealistic, QED always tell its stories with maintaining its calm and cool atmosphere.
Just got my hands on the new volume and the first story really struck me. For me this is one of his best work so far, clean, simple, but full of human values.
Proofing my point earlier that this manga never stop reinventing itself, the story opened with a scene from another manga which is crucial to the backstory of the case. It didn't make sense at first but then as the story unfolds, I can't see a better way to putting it together.
(please excused the super awful pages photo and cleaning, I can't seem to find an uploaded image of the english version, thus I translate n clean it myself -_-)
It's really great how the author managed to illustrate such complex point with such a simple way. Reading, watching, hearing murder cases usually makes me feel as if the victims are so one dimensional. In the end it always felt like something is still 'unsolved' even after the case and the tricks are explained.
Well, actually not just murder cases, in many event in life people tend to forget how others have their own story, Their own life. Their own journey. And that there is no way you can know it all unless you experience every minute and every day of that people's life yourself. Which makes it totally impossible.
It's just like the fish story in David Foster Wallace's speech "This is Water". Just like this manga, his speech always keeps me in check for paying more attention to other people rather than just swim away through this life. Even more it reminds me to respect and try not to judge others easily.
Since who knows what kind of water has they swim through to reach this point?
Bellow is the link to a great short video adaptation of the speech.
