Norah Ephron's Legacy

Three days ago the film industry lost one of its best, Nora Ephron. She was a writer, a blogger, a director and so much more. I was inspired to write this blog post after reading dozens of news articles and seeing endless tweets (Nora Ephron was trending on twitter), but one specific article, “Seeing Nora Everywhere”, written by Lena Dunham for the New Yorker was what really got me. Dunham detailed how she became friends with Ephron and the many things that she learned from Ephron in the short time she knew her. When she discussed her new apartment in the article, she talked about how she gushed to Ephron about the details, and Ephron told her it would be a great decision and that she wouldn’t regret it, this is just one of the memories that Dunham will carry with her throughout her life and career about Ephron. Ephron is most famously known for her movies, “When Harry Met Sally”, “You’ve Got Mail” and more recently, “Julie & Julia” among others. Many quotes from her movies are some of the most memorable movie quotes, the kinds that people know without having ever seen the movie because they have infiltrated our lives. For example, in the famous orgasm scene from “When Harry Met Sally” a patron in the deli they are eating gives the one liner, “I’ll have what she’s having”, and people say that all the time in their daily lives to reference a variety of different moments.
