               the inhuman doesn’t know what she was thinking. can’t fathom why she thought a doctor on another planet would tell her else wise. she can feel the depression trying to rip at her seams. feels it starting to seek out ever corner and crevice. 

               her body curls forward, hands cupping, a temporary hiding spot for her face. mia’s body heals, and heals, and heals, but it betrays her. there are two things the latina’s wants purged from her body---a scar that disfigures two inches of her sternum and the syndrome that leaves her barren.

              the words of encouragement that spill from the doctor’s mouth becomes inaudible. she’s heard it before---there are ways to go around infertility. all of them expensive, painful, and mentally draining. the only thing mia can focus on is the feeling of peter’s gaze on her.
