It’s not supposed to be like this. It’s never supposed to be like this. The news had shaken him to the core when he had heard it. Of course being an idol came along with its risks. Stalkers, overly dedicated reporters, and so on and so forth. Yet the sasaeng fans.. The sasaeng fans were the worst. It had happened before, taxis ordered to corner and harass their van, but it was worse when it was a member, alone.
Chanyeol’s vehicle got struck by a car. Owned by a crazed fan. The assailant was apprehended after the plate number was traced back to its private owner, but it didn’t change the fact that the idol had been injured. Jongin had raced to the hospital the moment he’d heard the news. Racing through white walls, quite frantic as he went to the room the receptionist had pointed him towards, he only slowed down to a halt when he saw Yura sitting in front of said room. Her eyes were puffy, and she had obviously cried, but still managed to smile. The look on her face reminded Jongin so much of Chanyeol he could barely keep tears at bay.
“He’s okay.. He’ll be okay.” Her reassuring voice sounded. “Mom and dad have already been, they’re at the police station now to file a report in his name. Your manager went with them.” Jongin wanted to say thank you, but his throat was clogged up. He bowed his head in gratitude instead and stifled a sob as he walked into the room. It was quiet, and they had their privacy, with Chanyeol’s sister sitting outside. The silence quickly filled with Jongin’s sobs as he cried.
Seeing his fiancé’s face and body covered in bruises and wounds made his heart ache with agony. His heart broke. “Hyung..” He whimpered, hand clasping a bandaged one. The elder male’s eyes were closed, but he felt a returned squeeze. As he looked up, he saw eyes look back at him. Tired, pained eyes that clearly needed rest, but they were open. Jongin took a shaky breath and sobbed loudly, fat tears rolling down his cheeks. Lifting the hand to his lips, he kissed over gauze and sighed. “Hyung..”
it happened suddenly. he had been on his way to pick up his sister from work. driving her places is something he does often and on this particular night, they had been planning to go out for dinner with their mom as well.
but things changed. he never made it to ytn.
something like this had happened before in shanghai during the schedules he had for ‘i married an anti-fan’. to this day, chanyeol remembers it vividly. he left the airport and entered into the city, with twenty cars following the one he was in, trying to block the car and the road. back then he couldn’t fathom how fans could wish to push such a dangerous situation onto him like that but now, he’s just relieved it wasn’t fatal and glad that something like that hadn’t happened again.
this time, chanyeol doesn’t remember much.
it happened so fast. he had been right there, a block away from ytn when a car suddenly came out of nowhere and hit him. from there, it’s all black -- and then he remembers flashing lights and loud sirens. and then nothing again, until he’s laid in a hospital bed, a dull pain surging throughout his body. he’s sore and it hurts to move. the faint beeping next to his head is enough to have his brows furrowed and he wants it to stop because his head has a faint pound as well, the ache there also dull from the morphine.
but then -- then chanyeol feels a hand in his own, and then he manages to focus on the sound of sobbing. familiar sobbing. his eyes hurt but he forces himself to open them, because for a brief moment chanyeol doesn’t feel the pain, he doesn’t remember how sore he is. because jongin is there, right next to him, and for a moment he’s able to forget where he is. he’s able to squeeze the hand in his own.
chanyeol hears that single whisper of hyung, and he realises how completely broken it sounds. a painful ache in his chest has him grimacing, his eyes squeezed shut until it passes. it’s not from his injuries. he never wanted jongin to see him like this, in such a state -- all those times he promised the two of them would be safe forever, protected forever. but part of him is glad that it’s him and not jongin.
his throat is dry, chanyeol notices it as he swallows and it hurts as he opens his eyes again, focused solely on jongin and nothing else. it hurts less when he looks at his love. he remembers when the two of them had confessed their relationship and engagement to both of their families -- something that had been so hidden for so long, out in the open for their loved ones. he wonders if yoora is the one who called him.
moments pass and he finds himself smiling, just barely able to feel the kiss upon his gauze wrapped hand. even though it hurts, jongin makes it hurt less -- makes breathing easier.
‘you’re crying..’ it hurts to speak and his voice is pained, raspy. his throat is so dry. but he still tries as he squeezes his hand again. he wishes he could dry those tears for him. ‘don’t cry..’
