Ooooh. Since I wrote Mistakes, I haven't written Jack angst and I kinda miss it. Hope this is good drama, anon hahaha
Too Far
Warnings: Angst, swearing, mentions of infidelity, crying, yelling/arguing, mentions of non-consensual touching (marked with tw), fluffy towards the end (I promise)
The room was still for a moment. It was as though someone had waved a magic wand and frozen you both in-place. Jack was sitting on the couch, staring down at his shoes, his fingers entangled in his curly locks, and his head hung low. You were standing in front of the television, holding up your phone like a prosecutor showing evidence in front of the jury. Your brows were furrowed. Your face was tight with emotion. You felt like tears were going to fall if you exhaled, so you stood there like a statue.
“I don’t know what you want me to say.” Jack said, finally looking up at you.
His head was tilted up in your direction, but he was still hunched over. His elbows pressed in to his thighs with his hands wide open. His blue eyes looked tired. His jaw was set in annoyance. You narrowed your eyes at him.
“What?” Your voice came out hard, it sounded less like a question and more like a threat.
“You obviously have it all figured out.” He made an S shape in the air with one of his hands in your direction. “You seem to think you know everything so, I don’t understand what I’m supposed to f*cking say to you.”
“Don’t swear at me.” You said, pointing a finger at him with your free hand.
“Don’t change the f*cking subject.” Jack raised his voice slightly. “That’s your little tactic right? You start piling sh!t on to make it a bigger case instead of saying what you really want. ‘Don’t swear at me.’ ‘Look me in the eyes.’ ‘Don’t walk away from me.’ All that before you turn around and do the same damn thing to me.”
Jack used a higher pitched voice to imitate you. Your cheeks burned with embarrassment at being called out. It only made your heartbeat faster and boil the anger inside of you.
“You want me to say it? I’ll f*cking say it then.” You walked closer to him and put the phone in his face. Jack pulled back slightly, his eyes staring at the phone with little focus.
“The next time I get a DM like this from a girl, I’m sending both you and her down a freaking river.” You said, darkness in your voice. “I don’t give a damn if you didn’t actually f*ck her, but letting her take a damn picture touching your crotch is disrespectful to me and your damn self.”
You cringed thinking about the photo again. The image of the woman with her manicured hand on top of Jack’s crotch, his tongue sticking out playfully as they posed for a selfie was burned into your mind. She made sure to lift the camera high enough to show off the top of her bikini as she and Jack laid on the poolside, the set for his recent music video. You swore for his sake that the actual music video didn’t show anything more intimate.
“It was just a joke.” Jack said, looking at you. “Back in the day, you would have found this funny.”
“That was before I had to defend myself online from a bunch of insta-famous girls who think we are the same because you are entertaining their little games.” You shook your head. “Why would you think this was okay? I know we’re not public public, but everybody in our circles know that we’re together. Besides, fans are starting to piece it together since I go to your shows and stuff. Why would you pose with her like this and humiliate me?”
“You’re only mad about it because she’s an influencer. If it was a fan you would have been liking their posts on your finsta. Hyping them up and sh!t.” Jack talked with his hands more when he was angry. His arms were extending all around as he pointed from here to there. You stepped back.
“An influencer who looks god damn like me, you mean!” You argued. “She sent it to me saying, ‘lol people told me they thought it was you.’ Yeah because you were grabbing my man’s dick, bitch.”
You closed your eyes. You weren’t mad at her. It was not her who was to set boundaries, it was Jack. You opened your eyes and glared at him.
“We’ve talked about this. I know you’re flirty by nature, but do you not have limits? Why did you think this was okay?” You repeated your question from earlier.
Jack stared at you in a way that you never saw directly before. You saw him stare at other people like that, usually on your behalf. When guys would hit on you, his eyes would meet theirs before he would say something that ended the whole exchange. Despite recognizing the look, you couldn’t even gear up for what he was about to say.
“Because she has a boyfriend.” HIs blue eyes narrowed ever so slightly. “And she’s very loyal to him.”
You felt like a bullet went through your chest. He didn’t have to say it. This argument. Your trust issues. His tiredness. They were all because you cheated on your last ex with Jack. All roads led back there in your head, but you didn’t think he thought about it too. Tears stung your eyes, your heart bursting with shame and anger. How dare he? How dare he bring up the one thing you hated yourself for the most?
You didn’t even respond. You tossed your phone at him. It hit him in the chest and made a loud sound as it bounced and fell into his lap. Jack closed his eyes as if almost welcoming the impact. He kept his eyes closed, unable to look at you anymore. You saw a hint of regret in his features, but once again he was frozen in-place.
You turned on your heels and made a bee-line for the bathroom in his bedroom. Even though his housemates had left at the smell of a fight brewing between the two of you, you didn’t want to risk going into the main bathroom for your breakdown.
You closed the door and locked it. You turned on the water in the sink to make some background noise. You slumped to the floor, back against the door and cried. You let out loud wails as you kept crying. You knew it was you who was blowing out of proportion. But, you knew why. You knew firsthand what the charm of Jack Harlow had on a girl. You and your ex were on the outs when you and Jack met. You hadn’t pull the trigger on the breakup. Every day you told yourself that today would be the day. It was easier said then done. You had been with your ex for so long, you didn’t know what would be the appropriate way of ending such a relationship.
You met Jack through a mutual friend and hit it off. It was lowkey party so, Jack was by far the most famous person there. But he was so down-to-earth and easy to talk to that you found yourself chatting with him for most of the night. Halfway through your conversation, you told him you had a boyfriend and he asked for how long. You told him it had been three years and he whistled.
“Y’all probably getting married soon then.”
“No, he’s...he hasn’t really talked about future plans”
Jack had looked you up and down before shaking his head. “If I were him, I’d make sure every guy knew you were mine. Especially looking like this. He’s fumbling the bag, for real.”
The rest was history. You flirted with Jack on the DL. You didn’t tell anyone, not even your best friends. You would delete your text messages and never met in person. You felt racked with guilt, but you felt addicted to him. It seemed he couldn’t get enough of you either.
Until one day you did, by accident. You ran into each other at a restaurant. He was with his friends and you were with yours, so there was no reason for you to say more than a courtesy hello. You made that clear to Jack, and he accepted it, making you want him more. You told yourself that this was a sign you needed to break up with your ex. You would do it when you got home tonight. You just had to resist Jack for the rest of the evening.
But, Jack looked so good. The restaurant was casual so, he was wearing dark jeans and a fitted white tee. He had on a sky blue hoodie that made his eyes pop. Watching him joke around with his friends and be the life of the party captured your attention. Despite your best efforts, you ended up making out with him outside. You had went out for some fresh air and there he was, doing the same. It was a moment of weakness, passion, and intoxication.
Your ex hadn’t planned to be there at all. He never liked hanging out with your friends. But, because you got drunk, one of your friends called him to make sure you got home safely. Which you would’ve appreciated if you weren’t tongue deep in another guy.
Your ex was shocked, as anyone would be. This was outside of your character. You were the good girl. Never cheated on a test, let alone a man. Your ex wasn’t mad and, to his small credit, he didn’t make a big deal out of it. He didn’t threaten to tell anyone and confessed to cheating on you as well. But your ex’s parting words haunted you.
“I know I wasn’t a good boyfriend to you this past year. I don’t blame you for having wandering eyes, because I did too. But, I would be careful of dedicating another three years of your life to a dude who is willing to seduce a taken woman.”
At two and a half years strong with Jack, you felt like you were looking for something to crumble. You would deserve it. If karma existed it mean that someone else would be the one to get Jack to cheat on you. These past few months had been painful. You were suspicious of everything. Jack let you know his passwords and you abused it. Constantly going through texts, DMs, emails, and phone records. You would pick fights about everything. At first, Jack was apologetic. He would admit that he didn’t think what he said/did was bad at the time, but he could see it from your point of view. But this week, he started arguing back. Maybe it was the stress of work or the fact that he was tired of being painted as the bad guy. But, this blow up was a long time coming.
“Y/N?” Jack’s voice startled you.
You didn’t hear when he had come by the door. By the sound of his voice, you guessed he was sitting outside the door. Chances are you were back to back. You stood up and turned off the water after splashing your face a few times. You dried you skin, sniffling, and then took back your seat.
“That was underhanded of me.” Jack confessed, his voice coming out sad and soft through the door. “I’m sorry. I know how much the beginnings of our relationship messed you up. And I hate that you blame yourself for it when it was definitely me--”
“It was me that messed up, Jack.” You said, cutting him off. “Then and now.”
You let out a shaky breath. You continued to speak. “My therapist says that hurt people hurt people. She said my lashing out is because I-I think I’m a bad person so, I assume other people are bad people too. I keep thinking you’re going to leave me when you find the next best thing. And worst is, I think I deserve to be left.”
“I don’t want to leave you.” Jack’s voice was louder, he was clearly facing the door. “Look, I’m not the kind of guy who breaks up a relationship. That was not something in my character anymore than it was in yours. But, I believe that we were right for each other and that’s why we couldn’t keep away. Should I have waited? Yes. Should you have broken up with your ex first? Yes. But, you and me, together, have grown from that. We promised each other, didn’t we? That we would be better people and not hurt each other?”
He was right. You went down a spiral after getting caught by your ex. You started seeing your current therapist who helped you grow from the experience. That included coming clean to those who were close to you to relieve the guilt. It was hard seeing how people looked at you differently--or at least, that’s how you perceived it. You spent time re-building those relationships. You also spent time with yourself to understand more about who you are and what you wanted to get out of all this.
And Jack waited patiently for you. Because he wanted to be with you and the fact that his desire of caused your pain made him feel terrible. Why did you think that Jack would do all that just to hurt you again?
“Open the door, baby...” Jack’s voice cooed.
You opened the door and he stood there arms opened. He held you tightly as you sobbed into his white t-shirt. He held you close as he patted your head, whispering words of assurance in your ears.

“I’m sorry, baby.” Jack said. “During the video shoot, I was caught up in the moment. She said she wanted to snap a photo for her cameo and I thought it would be fine. When she suddenly grabbed me, I felt uncomfortable, but I didn’t want to kill the mood. If I knew she would actually post it, I would have said something. I was mad at myself for messing up, especially since this week has been really tough. With the music video coming out it means a lot more promos. I’m super stressed at work and we’ve just been fighting all the time...”

“Mmm.” You murmured into his chest. “I’m sorry. I have been so paranoid. We’re nearing the time when my ex and I started to lose interest and I kept thinking it’s only a matter of time it happened to use too. I mean the photo was clearly a joke photo. It was a little too far and I think she realized that. I’m sure someone must of told her about me. I think she sent it to me almost as a way of saying -- hey I’m not trying to steal your man. I still got mad though.”
You could feel Jack chuckling, the vibrations coming from his stomach making you smile too. “I should tell her it wasn’t cool. I’ll talk to my manager and let them handle it.”
“I can do it.” You looked up at him, your chin pressing into his chest as you grinned mischievously. “You know I can tussle.”
“Nu uh, I spent way too much on those nails. Let the professionals handle it.” Jack laughed, wiping the free tears left from your eyes before his voice became serious. “I don’t mind that you’re a bit possessive of me. But, I need you to trust me. I trust you wholeheartedly. You do know that, right?”
That tugged on your heart strings. The fact that he trusted even though you cheated on your ex to be with him showed you that he knew your true character. Couldn’t you show him that you saw his too?
Again, you couldn’t speak at the fear of tears coming down again. “I know. I trust you and love you so much, Jack.”
“I love you too.” Jack said, his voice so sincere. “Come on, let’s have some us time. What do you want? Cuddles? Date Night? Anything you want, I’ll do it.”
“I just want you...” You said holding him tight.
Jack stiffened a bit. “Like want me or want me?” He asked, tenseness in his voice.
You looked up at him and smiled. “Both.”
Jack grinned brightly, bending down to toss you over his shoulder. He carried you to the bed and tossed you on it. You laughed, yelling his name in fake admonishment. He grabbed his phone from the night stand and started to text. You sat up slightly to see what he was doing.
“What’s up?” You asked, feeling a bit led on.
“Just letting the guys know we’ll be taking over the apartment tonight.” Jack smirked as he typed.
“The apartment?” You asked, a smile crossing your lips.
“We had like five fights this week babe. That’s five rooms to make up in. “ He grinned. “Hope you’re hydrated...”
