“I’m positive it’s her handwriting.”: “It certainly looks like it.” Kit had to admit. “But why would she send something like this?” Her finger traced over the words for the hundredth time. “Is there a code I’m missing? She surely can’t be serious about this.”

Rania shrugged. “I don’t know, but should we reply? The whole family could be in trouble? They might need us.”

The whole family. Three innocent children were at risk. Kit couldn’t live with herself if she dismissed this and someone came to harm. She would rather fall for a trap than ignore a friend in need. “We could reply. Or...could we get to them?”

“Well don’t be.” Kit snapped, a little too harshly. Anger was always her first refuge- better angry than sad, better angry than scared, better angry than vulnerable.  “I can take care of myself.”

Hogwarts Sorting: Rania

 for @r-duchessofwinnipeg along the lines of this post

Rania, Duchess of Winnipeg, is a Gryffindor Primary, Hufflepuff Secondary 

Primary is the why. Rania has a strong internal moral compass. She’s intuitive and can tell when something’s wrong. She trusts her gut feeling, rather than trying to rely on any external system. She knows when Kit needs a friend, or to trust Lemony despite the evidence against him, and she acts on that moral instinct without question.

Secondary is the how. Rania is consistent. Once she has a goal in mind, she pursues it with hard work and dedication. It may not be flashy or elaborate, but she gets the job done, and she doesn’t give up easily. 

Single House: Hufflepuff

It was an unusual sight, seeing Rania bow. It felt backwards- you’re the noble one here, Kit thought. But when the aim was misdirection…

“Miss Snicket, I’m so glad you could make it.” Kit said, extending a hand bearing R’s own ring.

"Olaf hurt you, didn't he?"

“No.” Kit answered, and it was only half a lie. He hadn’t laid a hand on her physically, but her emotions were raw and sensitive, like a burn. She kept her gaze on the ground, unable to look R in the eyes. Knowing that if she did, R would see the full truth immediately.
