Not much to say other than we’ve survived our presentations today, they both wen’t really well. Off to drink our wine and read our cards over and over and over again. 

We’re both had a blast, thanks for following our moves for the past 8 weeks. The last thing for us to do is hand in our passes to security before we’re escorted out the building.

Presentations

Following weeks of preparation, tomorrow we will present our findings to big boss Ben Cooper! Although we're nervous we're both very excited about hearing his feedback.

BATTLING BIRMINGHAM WIND!

We went out as a team and had amazing food at Turtle Bay last night. I had Jerk Chicken with sweet mash and slaw, if ya wanted too know ;-) including rum n ting as my choice of drink! SO GOOD!

An Update from James - My Fortnight with the Radio 1 Breakfast Show

Today marks the end of my fortnight with Grimmy and The Radio 1 Breakfast Show - and it's been a mad couple of weeks to say the least. From running across London trying to source a classic board game to clipping audio clips of Paul Hollywood for an on-air feature, there wasn't a quiet moment whilst working on the show - apart from maybe earlier today when I took some time out of my busy schedule to test out a show feature with the lovely Radio 1 film critic Rihanna. 

Nick and the team made sure I was always busy - my daily tasks included sourcing funny showbiz stories for the infamously sassy 'Showbot' and editing audio and music for broadcast, amongst other things. I was also invited to the various show meetings, and it was fascinating to see how the Matt, Fiona, Ian and Nick make decisions and come up with creative ideas to ensure the show stays fresh and exciting. Nick was off for a few days earlier this week, so I also got to contribute to some shows covered by Scott Mills and Chris Stark which was fun. I also got to work alongside the lovely Jocelin - the editor of the show who also happened to interviewed me for this position in the first place!

Although I know I shouldn't have expected anything less, it was really nice to feel that Grimmy and the team genuinely appreciated my contributions! To say I've worked on one of the biggest shows on British radio is such a privilege - only made better by the fact that Nick and the team were so lovely.

Following the rather crazy fortnight I've had with Grimmy and the team, I've got a catch-up day on Monday before diving head-first into the world of News and Current Affairs with the Newsbeat team. I did bits of writing and journalism for my University paper, so to be able to spend some time immersing myself within one of the BBC's main youth-orientated news brands is rather exciting indeed! Obviously, I'll keep you up to date with what I'm up to, so be sure to follow our blog if you're interested in the scheme or just want to know what we're up to!

BECKY ON FRICTION!

So to kick start my specialist week I've been working with the Specialist team on various tasks. I've been making guest fact sheets for B Traits up and coming guests, discovering new under 18 producers and artists for a show idea, and hunting down the most used dance samples. 

The 'dance' world is new to me, unless it mainstream stuff I'm not a big underground dance head, but I LOVE stepping out my comfort zone and I've really enjoyed discovering new sounds. It's nice to know how quick your head can wrap around a genre of music when you're researching. 

Today I've been on Friction's pre-record so that meant 3 hours in the studio listening to Drum&Bass/Dubstep vibes. I was really interested to see the production process and asked questions so I could learn as the producer and AP were working through the show. Friction was lovely and didn't mind me being there!

I ended up being given the responsibility to log the tracks he mixes and marking on the recording any relevant moments so the editing process is easier (quite a responsibility as you don't want to mess up the recording!)

The show was a laugh and it's great to see the difference between a pre-record and a live show, it's more relaxed! 

This week I'm on B Traits and Charlie Sloth so I'll keep you updated. I didn't get a selfie with Friction as I felt he wouldn't be down for a pouty pose ;-) but I must get more pics for the blog.
