Becky on Greg James's Show
Firstly, Greg gave my coat it's first debut when I asked for a picture for the blog. You wouldn't expect anything less from Greg right!?
I've got a whole two weeks with the team and I'm loving it. Last week was busy as I was learning about the features, sitting in on the shows and getting to know the team. I'll talk you lot through a few things I've worked on so you get some ideas, number one being the legendary Going Home Song!
Gary (team assistant) was off on Monday so I was given the responsibility to put it together. I rang up potential 'singers' aka listeners who wanted to do the song and recorded them singing the lines. It was such a good experience speaking to listeners first hand and gaining that experience. The funniest part being they had to follow my lead singing and I really had to make sure they brought their A game.
After the recordings I clipped them up and put them together with the theme song. Travis the assistant producer is really good at giving advice and teaching me the way they do it! The following day, Tuesday, my GHS was played out on air! (My little proud moment).
I feel like I'm learning loads being on the show and the team are really good at giving me tasks to do. Another task I completed was for Nerd Alerts, which I'm sure you'll know of if you listen to Greg's show. I had to go through all the emails listeners had sent in and pick 6 of the best ones. I then find the clips people were suggesting on our system and clip them up ready for the show.
Another stand out moment was on Thursday when The Script came into the studio! Before hand we had to find 4 mega fans to do some singing and The Script chose the best one for a live Star Caller. Myself and Travis worked through all the emails frantically ringing mega fans and seeing how much they knew about The Script and what their favourite songs were, making sure they were free for the pre-record then later on a possible Star Caller.
Obviously everyday I'm also sitting in on the shows, below is a picture I snapped from when Scott Mills & Chris Stark came in to do 'Mayor of Where?' with Chris Smith (with the news) and Greg. It was and always is a clever funny feature. For the record, Greg guessed the Mayor right this time!
Throughout the show I check the twitter and texts so that Greg can interact with the listeners. I also help Gary out if he's got a lot on with organising Greg's show then later on Zane's show.
Last week I contacted all the people who were in touch about being on Feet Up Friday with Greg that week. Again, this was a really good experience directly speaking to listeners and making sure I gave all the right information, checking they were going to be a fun group and arranging for them to come into Radio 1 HQ!
Finally, this week myself and James have got a meeting with BBC Three again so we'll update you on that. I also need to crack on with my final presentation which is next Friday (scary!!).
