★ A secret dream for the future involving your muse
Lea sighed, idly thumbing the frayed part of her gloves as August continued to talk with one of the other members during the meeting. It wasn’t entirely boring, really, it just didn’t involve her directly. August was the leader; he needed to know all of the happenings with the resistance, in order to direct it accordingly.
It was what leaders did. Lea knew it well enough, from her own experience, though on a much smaller scale. She didn’t know how August managed it half the time.
There was a tapping to her right, and she glanced over to see the pencil Donna held being bounced against the table repeatedly. Lea sighed, then reached over to rest her hand on her sister’s shell. The tapping stopped, and Lea gave Donna a pat as she turned to look back at her.
“We’ll get to our part, once she stops talking.” Lea whispered, subtly moving her chair closer to her sister so she could hear. “From the few meetings I’ve been to, she tends to run her mouth. August will cut her off soon.”
Donna smiled at that. It was only a little one, but it was enough to make Lea want to return the gesture. It felt good. Like a part of herself was waking up again. She huffed a little at that, leaning back in her chair and directing her attention back to August. These meetings wouldn’t be so bad, now that her sister was deemed well enough to attend them.
“Hey, calm down. There’s no need to be nervous.” Donna had started to shift in her seat, and Lea frowned, moving her hand in circles over her shell. Strange, she didn’t think that she’d be this nervous. What had gotten into her…?
Lea pulled out of the dream, the muted colors and blurred shapes disappearing into memory. Donna was twitching again; that must have been what had woken her. Lea blinked groggily and yawned, moving the hand she had placed on her sister’s shell in small circles.
It helped somewhat, but Donna was still muttering in her sleep, and the words that could be made out did not put Lea at ease. Sighing, she placed her hand on her sister’s head, slowly moving her thumb until the pinched furrows between her brows smoothed out. Eventually, Donna fell silent again, but still Lea kept her hand on her head. It wasn’t just to keep her sister grounded; a part of it was for her own selfish benefit.
Funny, she could still “see” in her dream, per say, but the only thing that was actually clear was the smile on her sister’s face. It was the one thing that really mattered to her, since discovering her upon her return to the base, but the hazy recollection of the rest of Donna bothered her.
Frowning, Lea gently traced down Donna’s cheek, carefully visualizing the face she used to know, and committing it to careful memory. She may never see it again, but she didn’t want to forget it.
Her fingers brushed over her sister’s lips, and she smirked a little when she didn’t find them in the usual smile the had felt before. Donna wasn’t one to smile all the time, even before the Void. She would frown, scowl, stick her tongue out when she was in deep thought, have that smug smirk when she was proven right…
It was funny that she wanted to see those again, too. Not just her smile, any small gesture.
Lea let her hand drop to her sister’s shoulder, giving it a gentle squeeze before she finally let herself doze off. Donna was all right again, it was okay to fall asleep for a little longer, before it was time to wake up for more training.
