During the Revolutionary War, the battles between the patriots and redcoats were immensely brutal and fought with great passion on both sides. The patriots for their independence and the redcoats to keep control over the new world. In the 18th century, technology was improving and tactics of war were advancing. Being in new lands, the patriots had limited amounts of resources and had to use anything they could utilize in order to win their battles. The redcoats had a particular formation where they would line up shoulder to shoulder in rows and as they were shot at, would decrease in number row by row. The patriots, however, used the trees and camouflage to sneak up on their attackers and fire their guns. The redcoats also didn't learn that although their red uniforms did make them seem intimidating, they were easily spotted and were able to be distinguished by the patriots easily. Although the Americans were fighting for their independence from Great Britain, people had considered their tactics to be "terroristic" mainly because due to their advancements in war tactics, they were leading warfare and improving greatly. The patriots showed no mercy when coming to dealing with redcoats because they were fighting for their freedom, which was all they had in the new world. The Americans were beginning to form governments and be the nation they wanted to be, and by having the control from the British, they were unable to do so. The British, also had these so-called "barbaric" ways, however they knew that during some point, they would be unable to defeat the patriots' urge for freedom.
