Reconstruction during the 1800s was considered a time after the Civil War in which there was multiple implications to reinstate many of the policies that we had once followed before, but with an improved form of running the country. Some target areas included the economy as well as civil rights that we as citizens had, including immigrants. Reconstruction was successful and had failures in various ways. Many challenges were faced when dealing with slavery and the demographic areas in which it should be allowed and prohibited. Amendments that had supported African American rights were added to the constitution and by doing so; African Americans had been able to be granted freedom and had political rights such as voting. The country had also been facing a time period where individual states had wanted to become their own country and were not at compromise with the centralized government that was formed. Through Reconstruction, these states were back on the same page with the government and no longer wanted to become their own separate country. With the successes of Reconstruction, there were failures as well. In regards to slavery, the slaves were free; however, they faced a new problem, segregation and racism. African Americans were victimized by various groups including the KKK. During this time period President Lincoln was assassinated causing turmoil within the White House itself. Due to here being no final say by the president, many points that should’ve been part of the Reconstruction were opposed and argued by various sides of his cabinet.

During the 1800s, the Manifest Destiny was an idea that Westward expansion would be the true growth that would benefit the American Country in a positive way. By promoting this, the government hoped that it would lead to more power for the American country. The Manifest Destiny was not an actual document but a theory that was simply promoted by American citizens in order to lead to the annexation of more states and land. John O’Sullivan named the idea by saying that it was our destiny to make the country larger. This led to the growth and civilization within the western portion of the country. This editorial was not a government campaign of any kind, but simply a preposition that if we pushed and expanded westward that our country would have more resources and places for the growing population to grow, thus, strengthening our economy and social standing with other countries. The Manifest Destiny justifies that as a country, America’s main purpose for becoming a country was o not only provide a safe haven for those trying to escape English powers but to evolve into a strong power that will be stronger than other countries and provide its people with the rights that they deserve. By having these rights, it gave Americans the opportunity to have democracy within its country and for the rest of the world to view America as an example and would follow in having the ability to become democracies as well. American foreign policy had developed greatly through this, not only because of the expansion in size but by giving the American people the opportunity to stand together to work towards the same goal to make our country more powerful.

In 1800, when Thomas Jefferson became president, multiple events that were components to our country's success occurred. As the 3rd president, Jefferson was the first individual to be inaugurated in Washington D.C as opposed to John Adams and George Washington themselves being inaugurated in the House of Representatives Chamber of Congress Hall in Philadelphia and Federal Hall in New York City. Two years later, Jefferson signs the Enabling Act which enforces certain procedures in which territories must follow in order to become a state. During 1802, as well, all problems between the United States and Spain are resolved after both countries partake in a convention where representatives compromised all ideas and sorted them out accordingly. One of the major events that took place during Jefferson's presidency was the signing of the Louisiana Purchase Treaty. The United States had bought the territory from France after an ordeal in which Napoleon Bonaparte needed money to fund his own country. James Monroe was sent to discuss a price with the minister of France, Robert Livingston, to set a price which amounted to $15 million. This nearly doubled the size of the United States and showed our power and stability as a nation. I believe that Jefferson's presidency, both terms, was successful mainly because of the fact that he had succeeded Adams in many ways. After having to hold a legacy such as Washington, Adams' presidency could have been considered as less successful. However, by Jefferson upholding the new political ways and forming and improving a better government system, he could be considered as a better foundation for our country after Washington.

During the Revolutionary War, the battles between the patriots and redcoats were immensely brutal and fought with great passion on both sides. The patriots for their independence and the redcoats to keep control over the new world. In the 18th century, technology was improving and tactics of war were advancing. Being in new lands, the patriots had limited amounts of resources and had to use anything they could utilize in order to win their battles. The redcoats had a particular formation where they would line up shoulder to shoulder in rows and as they were shot at, would decrease in number row by row. The patriots, however, used the trees and camouflage to sneak up on their attackers and fire their guns. The redcoats also didn't learn that although their red uniforms did make them seem intimidating, they were easily spotted and were able to be distinguished by the patriots easily. Although the Americans were fighting for their independence from Great Britain, people had considered their tactics to be "terroristic" mainly because due to their advancements in war tactics, they were leading warfare and improving greatly. The patriots showed no mercy when coming to dealing with redcoats because they were fighting for their freedom, which was all they had in the new world. The Americans were beginning to form governments and be the nation they wanted to be, and by having the control from the British, they were unable to do so. The British, also had these so-called "barbaric" ways, however they knew that during some point, they would be unable to defeat the patriots' urge for freedom.

Each of these four colonies, Dutch, Swedish, English, and French, were different in their own ways in regards to settling in North America. They all faced successes as well as failures. However, they all had one thing in common, they each wanted to begin new lives for their people and to discover new lands. After the 1500s,the Dutch began new expeditions into areas that were never explored. They founded the province of New Netherland. The leader of these expeditions was Henry Hudson, who the Hudson River was named after, due to the claim that he had discovered the New York Bay and sailed the route in order to explore thoroughly. Another place that was discovered included Canada, which the Europeans encountered Natives who welcomed them to their lands. Some of the Dutch successes included growth of an economy through the trade of fur within the northern colonies and beginning the expansion of their colony. With this expansion became failures for other colonies such as New Sweden which was taken over by the colony of New Netherland. Florida and New Foundland were points where trade was sought between. This led to the success of agriculture as well as fur. Along with other Europeans, Giovanni Verrazano of the French sought out to explore a route to the Pacific Ocean and to help the economy grow. Another explorer who attempted to explore and settle into colonies was Jacques Cartier who set out on 3 expeditions. The expeditions ended up in a failure due to multiple reasons, however one settlement in present-day Canada was successful for a short period of time. As for the English, the colonies formed by them were successful and grew to beyond North America alone. They were able to take over the Dutch colonies and began to settle along the west coast and Canada. Failures that were encountered included figuring out how to survive harsh climate changes and how to revolutionize their colony further.
