Merril getting robbed and thinking it was the greeting of the area (which is like, a canon thing) thus confusing the robber with her earnestness and sweetness T B H
“Give me your money,” The robber had said gruffly, pointing a dagger at her. He was tall, and his face was covered by a scarf, but what the scarf didnt cover showed scars that evidenced a rough life filled with crime. She only looked at him, slightly confused.
“Well that’s an odd way to greet someone. An odd way indeed. Well, um. How much money do you need?” she asked as she pulled out her small purse, looking through it with a puzzled look on her face. “I haven’t got much, but i can spare some,” she looked up at him, eyebrows furrowed enough to cause a slight wrinkle on her forehead. His stance wavered, and he dropped his dagger ever-so-slightly. He looked her up and down, one eyebrow raised in confusion. She raised an eyebrow back at him, a silent question.
“Well? I haven’t got all day. I’m supposed to be meeting a friend at the Hanged Man in a short while,” she answered. He dropped his dagger completely.
“Um.” was all he managed. She sighed in exasperation and laughed slightly. She grabbed some coin from her small purse and held her closed hand out. The robber looked at it as if it was the most alien thing he’d ever seen. Merrill motioned her hand toward him, and he carefully held out a palm. She dropped three silver pieces and gently closed his hand around them with her own. He looked at her hands wrapped around his for a moment and then looked back at her face. She was smiling.
“There you go,” she said, removing her hands, “I hope it’s enough,” she finished. He looked at the three silver pieces again before pocketing them and sheathing his dagger.
“Now,” she began, “Would you mind actually pointing me in the direction of the Hanged Man? This city has so many twists and turns, I’m constantly getting lost.” He dumbfoundedly pointed her in the direction she needed to go and she cheerfully said goodbye and continued on her way.
What a nice man, she thought to herself.
