So here's a question for all of you Vulture Culturists and other people who are into cool dead things. I've got two 19 day old rabbit fetuses and I think I'd like to sell one of them. Basically I breed Tan rabbits and my doe decided to abort today for seemingly no reason so now I've got two perfectly formed bunny fetuses preserved as wet specimens. I'm including pictures - they look really freaking cool. Would anyone be interested in buying one? I'm negotiable on price so just tell me how much you'd be willing to pay for one and I'll figure out how to get it to you. :|
Today I found and picked up a cottontail rabbit on the side of the road. She was very fresh and had probably only been hit a few hours (if that) before I found her. I immediately noticed her lower abdomen was big and round. When I got home to work on her, I quickly found these two. These are only the second and third fetuses I have ever found in an animal that I worked with. One of the fetuses has a broken leg, and the mother’s spine was badly broken with slight damage to her skull. I am deeply saddened and affected by these deaths. I always warn others to watch the roads and slow down for all animals when driving. If an animal is hit, it is harmed/killed, but it’s also possible that it’s not the only life lost. These two will never have a chance to live, and whoever hit the mother kept going, possibly ignoring the rabbit and leaving her in the road. I am preserving these fetuses together, along with the mother so the family will “live” on, and be cherished and loved for as long as I am alive.♥
(***Please do not tag any of my photos of dead animals with “dead shit” or anything similarly disrespectful. I too often see that on various posts, and I don’t find that amusing or kind. These are once living creatures who were killed because of human negligence, and although they are no longer living, they still deserve to be respected. Also, please do not remove any of my text. Their story belongs with their photos.)
First time making wet specimens! These guys have been sitting in my freezer for a little while while i collected the materials to make them into proper specimens
Theyre stored in a 70% ethyl alcohol solution, injected into the larger crayfish's body cavity to help penetrate that thick carapace, and im going to check back in a few weeks and change out the liquid if it looks gross
if anyone has any tips for making and maintaining wet specimens id be happy to listen!
pictures under the cut
This evening we’ve given new glass homes to three little rabbit kittens, they were never born so they’re incredibly small and cute.
Sophie’s aborted kit. :C Sophie is 22 days into her pregnancy, and I walked out tonight to find a couple drops of blood and this poor thing under her cage, just half an hour after finding the chick embryo... No way it could be Autumn's either; Autumn and Sophie are in on two different corners of the rabbit shed. If there were others, Sophie or my dog ate them, or she hasn't passed them yet. ;~; I wonder if she could pass a single kit and still hope to later kindle the rest of the litter live? This is the THIRD time I've tried to breed this darn doe, and it finally took...and then she does this. DX
