(Obligatory reminder to myself that I have tumblr...) ANYWAY! I hadn't written a fanfic in years, and I especially had never posted a fic before this one... so of course, my debut had to be a 200k+ word Dark Souls lore retelling (with heavy doses of nkstein angst because of course). And as of today (Nov 3, 2024), A Flame's Consequence (AFC) has come to an end 💙

I've learned a lot while writing this, and there is SO much that I would improve if I were to rewrite this from scratch. Though considering this was my first fic (at least, my first public one), I think it turned out pretty alright :) I'll miss AFC dearly, but I'm also excited to work on new writing projects (both my current WIPs being Soulsborne)! 💙💙

Oh, you're writing a Bloodborne fic? What's that one gonna be about, may I ask? 👀

GREAT QUESTION MY FRIEND! Like with A Flame's Consequence, this will be a retelling of lore... however! Instead of there being multiple POVs from different characters, there will be one single POV that observes the thoughts and actions of Bloodborne's characters. I have yet to decide when in the story I'll name drop the identity of this POV (i.e., if I'll throw the truth bomb right at the beginning or if I'll litter the story with hints before confirming the identity), but I have a feeling that you (yes, you specifically! But I hope others will too) might like who it is (but alas, it's not Patches; sorry!) If you're familiar with The Book Thief, it'll be in a similar format (i.e., a mix of 1st person and 3rd person, using 1st person POV for the observer and then 3rd person for getting a closer look at some of the action that's going on). I realize 1st person isn't everyone's cup of tea, but I'm pretty sure the idea I'm going for hasn't been done before in Bloodborne fanfiction (and I think I've reasoned it out enough in my head so that it's lore friendly enough), and I think 1st person use will really help in this. You'll see what I mean by this once I finalize and release the fic's summary! If all goes to plan, I should have the first chapter (maybe even two!) released by March (just in time for Bloodborne's anniversary). I'm so so excited to get it out there!!

Summary:

When Lord Gwyn's lastborn is suddenly deemed king of the gods, he finds himself inheriting the remains of an abandoned kingdom. With hardly any godly subjects left to lead and the First Flame being in the hands of a human kingdom, Gwyndolin must face an uncomfortable truth if he wishes to usurp control over the Flame and restore the influence of the gods: humans are the solution.
