HakuMyu Journey Update (Souma Hen)
Souma Hen Thoughts (Initial Watch)
Shinkai is 3 hours then, I have learned after watching Souma Hen and Sanan Hen.
Maybe it's just me, but I feel...it's...It's not as bad as Kitan. But it still suffers. It's heavy. Feels like there's songs every 5 minuets. There's no room to breath and nothing really to lighten the mood. (I know, it was suppose to be a 2020 musical but pushed, doesn't change this.)
And the god damn petals! I don't think we needed that many or from the start. My brain was almost constantly like, don't slip, don't slip. don't slip.
There was definitely some choices I don't agree with. *Cough*KazamaHijikataFight*Cough*
Most of the songs sounds very...safe? Basic? Like, the removal of Yaisa didn't sit that well with me. The song that would replace it, and the best way to describe it, would be Yaisa goes in a straight line and the new one does zigzags. Flows badly and makes the 5 minute song feel like it drags for 10 while doing 2 sets of loops. While I can watch the Live 1 Medley Yaisa and not get bored.
The same can be said for the scenes where Souma, Nomura, and Chizuru were trying to get back to Hijikata. I feel like it would have been better if the songs were combined at the end and we see what happens to everyone, just move from scene to scene so it doesn't feel as disconnected with the dialogue in between.
My brain, before checking, could have sworn it was the same song four times. Which somehow made me forget the song Sanan sings that's my favorite of the whole musical. (I absolutely forgot Souma sang near the end of this part)
If there was ever a call for a fall off the back of the stage, it would have been when Nomura dies. He literally falls off the damn ship when he dies.
As much as I like the accuracy of keeping Amagiri and Kazama in this route, I never got or liked their inclusion in the first place. But then we add Shiranui for....What? Just for accuracy of the kidnapping? (They did have Hijikata save Souma instead of Sanan there...)
I would have taken more scenes of Miki. Hell, it would have been perfect to have a scene or two with Miki and Itou.
One positive, I really like the use of props and the stage movements to move actors and things from one side to the other.
I think that's all of my initial ramblings for now.
