your tags abt sanders news is correct. i think it's probably just a formal suspension of his campaign at this point. i've read some ppl speculate that he waited to formally announce this for the sake of progressive WI primary down ballot votes (without knowing at the time how badly the pandemic would affect voting turnout and safety). essentially if you still support bernie, vote for him in the primary. it wont be a case of writing him in.
Yeah, I keep seeing this back-and-forth of like, “He’s not out of the race yet, stop spreading misinformation” and “He’s out of the race, stop posting about Here’s How Bernie Can Still Win.”
I know the official word is that he is still going to be on the primary ballots, so anyone who supports him should absolutely still vote for him. If nothing else, if he gets a lot of delegates, maybe the DNC might adopt more a more progressive platform than they would otherwise, because it would show that a large portion of Democratic voters may be more likely to vote for the official nominee (rather than voting third party or just not voting) if at least some progressive reform is incorporated into the current party platform. (It definitely won’t be anything close to what Bernie’s platform is, though, which is what sucks.)
It’s actually discouraging how many people are like, “If you don’t vote for Biden you’re basically voting for Trump.” Which, to be fair, has been said throughout the entire campaign (especially whenever the subject of electability comes up), but especially right now. It’s not the general election yet, but people are already beating the “just vote for the lesser of two evils or you’re just being performative” drum. The point of a primary is to select the nominee, so you should vote for your first choice. But so often it’s framed as if a primary is the same as the general election and our only viable choices are Useless Centrist and Far Right Troll. That’s not unique to this election though, that’s just… kind of how U.S. elections have played out for awhile now.
Idk. My state’s primary isn’t for awhile, and I’m really discouraged, but I’ll still vote Bernie when the primary comes around, just like I did last time.
And, as an aside, I have to say that I’ve been impressed at how Bernie’s been handling his campaign during the COVID-19 crisis. He’s been fundraising for charity and continuing to speak out about social justice (now in the context of the pandemic), rather than focusing solely on his campaign ambitions, which is far more than can be said for Biden (who apparently doesn’t seem to think COVID-19 is a big deal).
