"#I was a bridesmaid in my friend's wedding#and all of us got to carry a sword" I have so many questions.
OKAY BUT IT WAS AMAZING. Bride and Groom were both Nerds (TM) who initially bonded over playing DND, and also had a collection of swords from various Renaissance Fairs and the like. There were many nerd elements incorporated into the wedding itself, including a dice ceremony instead of your standard unity candle/sand ceremony (which sounds like it could be a Lot and there were definitely chuckles in the church when they introduced it but it was so genuinely SWEET I was impressed), and the church music included arrangements from Lord of the Rings and Star Wars.
Now we did not walk in the church with swords, but we posed for pictures with them. Groomsmen did not have swords, but rather spears they had made themselves at a blacksmith shop during the bachelor weekend. And then when we were introduced at the reception we walked out with our weapons, and when the bride and groom came out we held our swords/spears in an arch for them to walk under as more Star Wars music played.
Honestly tho I loved it so much????? Like I cannot properly describe how amazing it feels to be all dolled up in a pretty dress with a sword in one hand and a bouquet in the other, I did not want to put it down. The wedding coordinator came to take it away to keep it safe and I was basically like “nah I need a dance partner thanks.” I did not get to keep the sword but I was granted visitation so that’s something.
Overall 10/10 experience, highly recommend incorporating swords into all weddings.
