(The) Rachel
Here’s my @animorphsecretsanta gift for Felix ( @catsandcataclysms)!
So sorry I’m late, everything happened D:
I love the end of #54 so much, and The Rachel is a big part of it. I hope you like this Tobias/Rachel angsty shippy goodness :)
rachel/tobias 17 (or any combination of the animorphs tbh)
17 - things you said that i wish you hadn’t (listen to green eyes by coldplay or u angel u by elvis depressedly for a better effect)
It was so warm out. The night sky stretched overhead, inky black with a scattering of lovely white stars: infinitely beautiful.
From his seat on the cool ground Tobias smiled. He saw Rachel in those stars. Rachel stared vacantly, because all she saw was the cause of their war. Space in all of its vast glory and cruel entanglements.
“Hey,” Tobias said, grabbing her hand gently. “Thank you.”
Rachel smiled quickly and it was so forced, so forced that Tobias did everything he could not to burst into tears right then and there. Her mind was so clearly elsewhere, most likely dancing precariously through their latest battlefield.
“Don’t thank me for being with you on your birthday,” she laughed, intertwining her fingers with his.
His heart leaped.
“I mean, ‘thank you for loving me’,” he elaborated.
“You never ever have to thank me for that,” Rachel said. It was a promise. “You’re the only thing that keeps me alive.”
“What do you mean?” he asked in a valiant attempt to keep his tone neutral.
She shrugged. “You’re the only reason I have to stay alive and fighting; you’re the only reason I hold back at all in fights.”
There was a pause and then she said, “I’ll keep fighting for you until my dying day.”
Tobias wished he could shove her playfully and tell her to stop kidding around. But they were in a war, child soldiers against an army of invisible assailants, and she wasn’t simply making a metaphor of their situation.
He wished that she hadn’t said that.
“Don’t do anything martyr-like for lil’ old me,” he joked.
She just smiled at him softly.
