In Swedish folklore, radande are fey tree spirits. They are bound to a single tree until it dies, though it is said that they can occasionally take human form and move a short distance away. There are even stories of radande uprooting their trees and using them to move about the forest.
Radande trees are said to grow most frequently in the centre of fairy rigns, alone on a hillside, or beside a wellspring. They are usually the oldest tree in the grove. If the tree is cut down, the radande will die, though some believe that they will then haunt the person who destroyed their home.
