A "sheltering" instinct, if you will. Knowing this about their species, in the event of such an incident family members and friends are tasked to send a trusted individual to address the problem. The only reason this didn't happen sooner here is because... well, Veera's the empress! To send the trusted individual is to not have faith in her!   Rather foolish, but what can you do?

Nutmeg Reference

I updated the coat patterns on her face to better match how she appears on the comic. Other people might not have noticed, but I did. Enjoy!   Halflite stressed to me on Discord that he wanted to draw Nutmeg at some point, and that I in turn should draw more Nutmeg. So I made a character reference to satisfy both of those desires!
