I decided to start designing my next gen. I’ll be covering the subject in the sequel to Like Fireworks in the Sky, but I wanted to go ahead and work out designs now. So up first, the daughters of Twilight Sparkle and Sunset Shimmer: Nova Burst (left) and Radiant Comet (right). More details under the cut.
For a little bit of backstory, I imagine that Sunset returns to Equestria after all her friends in the human dimension graduate. They go their separate ways, and while they still stay in contact, the relationships become a little strained and Sunset longs for her old world, so she comes back. She takes up magic studies once more and becomes a teacher, working closely with Twilight. Sunset also enjoys getting to see Starlight, as well as getting to know the pony counterparts to her human friends, who she grows to like just as much. But she remains closest to Twilight, and in time they start dating and finally decide they want to be together.
Twilight and Sunset use a sex swap spell to conceive, with Twilight taking the stallion role. She later feels bad when she finds out they’ll be having twins, which will be a bit rough on Sunset’s smaller body. But they get through the pregnancy without any serious complications, and have two healthy alicorn daughters. Nova was the first to be born, followed by Comet. The two are very talented magic users like their parents and will go on to be the raisers of the Sun and the Moon in Celestia and Luna’s place. I’m sure you can guess who manages which. Now, on to some info about the girls. Please know that some of this is still subject to change.
Nova Burst
Nova is the more rambunctious of the twins. While she understands the importance of her mother’s role in Equestria, as well as her own potential, she can’t help but push back against rules she doesn’t agree with and challenge others to think differently than they usually would. Nova is talented with light magic and is very flashy when she uses it, hence her cutie mark being a bright supernova. She also has a fascination with space and pushes for the advancement of space technology. She is determined for ponies to use science to get to the moon within her lifetime. On an unrelated note, Luna wants nothing to do with that project.
Though Nova is quite the punk, she’s genuinely a good person at heart just like her parents and she only wants the best for Equestria, and is willing to take on whatever princess-y tasks are assigned to her. Nova likes spending time with Sunset more than Twilight, but loves both parents equally. And of course she loves hanging out with her sister, they both enjoy learning from each other and sharing magic tricks.
Radiant Comet
Radiant is quieter than her sister, preferring to study and practice her magic in solitude. Radiant is closer to Twilight, often shadowing her as she goes about her day. She never quite grew out of it, and is still eager to help her out. She has an aptitude for dark magic, but is very careful not to do anything unethical or dangerous with it. Instead, she strives to show everyone that there’s no such thing as evil or good magic, it all comes down to the magic user themselves and any magic can be beneficial if you want it to be. Twilight is very interested in her studies but advises her to be careful, as many ponies have been tempted down dark paths by the promise of power. Luckily, much like her sister, all Comet really wants is to better Equestria.
Comet has a similar interest in space, but while Nova is focused on the possibility of exploration, Comet would much rather watch the constellations and celestial bodies. She tracks meteor showers and comets, and discovers many more objects that hadn’t previously been seen. Her enthusiasm inspires astronomers and astrologists alike. She gained her comet-like cutie mark upon discovering her knack for understanding space, which will come in handy when it comes time for her to move the Moon. She may even be able to cast a spell to let it move on its own, so she can focus her efforts on other things. But nah, that’d be pretty crazy, right?
