Eat Like A Vancouverite : Radicle Juice
the farmers barrel and a bit o' plaid..
Since moving to Canada from Australia I’ve learnt that food here falls into two categories, the ridiculously healthy, and the gloriously calorie riddled. Having indulged in one too many pulled pork poutines in the past four months I decided it was time to experience the dark side and try some of the healthy food Vancouver is so crazed about.
Located at 3088 Main Street, Radicle Juice is tucked amongst several bars and cafes, signalled by a neon red sign. Its clean white décor with hints of industrial styling create a light and bright atmosphere – your entire body feels like its going to be spoilt the second you walk in the door. With an eclectic range of fresh pressed juices, smoothies and acai bowls made before your eyes, there is something to please even the fussiest of carnivorous couch potatoes – including myself!
From the classic green juices packed with kale and assorted herbs and smoothies thickened with almond butter then bulked up with protein, Radicle Juice provides plenty of healthy, vegan options that you won’t see anywhere else. Personally, I couldn’t go past the Farmers Barrel smoothie, which mixes basil, raw vanilla, coconut nectar, avocado, blackberries and almond milk into the taste of a dewy morning overlooking the fields from a toasty cabin. A pretty delicious way to kick off a sunny Friday!
Unlike franchise juice bars that dominate every second corner, Radicle Juice provides a neighbourly experience by advertising local events, promoting British Columbian produce at its best and serving up their concoctions with a grin.
They even sell Radicle Juice tumblers for an extra three dollars on top of any smoothie or juice order – so all you hipsters can get your adorable packaging fix without breaking the bank. Plus to treat its loyal customers and (in true Vancouverite style) help reduce waste, reusing your tumbler in store will save you a couple of quarters each visit.
I have to admit I’ve found the whole Vancouver health craze scene a little daunting, but if it’s all as inviting and as ridiculously delicious Radicle Juice, then I’ll be a kale-munching, matcha sipping yoga nut in no time!
