Note: these are the original mp3 files shared on LiveJournal way back in 2004. Little is known about its origin – who recorded it, whether Sufjan played more songs or gave an interview, etc – but one interesting fact is that this is the very first version of Chicago many of us ever listened to.

WEB, MP3 downloaded from http://www.kcrw.com/music/shows/morning-becomes-eclectic/sufjan-stevens and split with mp3splt-gtk
Quality: A This radio session was recorded the day before the Illinois tour started. Note that the lossless and lossy recordings shared here come from different sources. The lossless one is an FM capture (sounds brighter, but also has more hiss), while the lossy one was downloaded directly from the KCRW site (no hiss, but sounds a bit more muffled at a lower bitrate).

Note: the interview track comes from YouTube, not the Studio Brussel website, but Ayco Duyster herself has confirmed it was from the same radio session. She interviewed him, he played 3 songs for her, and then that evening he played a show at AB Club. Download: 192 kbps MP3

A-T-5 009 THE COOKIE CREW John Peel Session
The Cookie Crew session for John Peel from 1985. A clean version of this would have been a great addition to the Cherry Red boxset that came out last year
At the end of last year I watched this essay on the difficulties UK rap has crossing over the Atlantic. It's not perfect but it's not bad
