Over the last few years, a herd of 19 #WildElephants moved into Mahasamund, #Chhattisgarh, an area that had not seen elephants for many, many years. As a result, the local people are alarmed; conflicts between villagers and this herd have already resulted in human deaths. The Chattisgarh Forest Department has asked us to intervene. The goal is to GPS-collar 3 of the elephants in order to track the herd and notify villagers in advance if the elephants are nearby. This would reduce the number of conflicts & human fatalities, and hopefully protect the herd from being killed, captured, or forcibly relocated. To begin this project, we need $37,000 to purchase and place the GPS collars and start monitoring. This herd is at risk, and this is the best shot they have — will you help us give them a chance? http://bit.ly/2wcz9G4
