"CQ Field Day, CQ Field Day!". I had a beautiful and fun solstice evening with W6KA The Pasadena Amateur Radio Club's combined Field Day event with the South Pasadena Amateur Radio Club (SPARC), the Altadena and JPL Amateur Radio Clubs. The Clubs took over the South parking lot of the Art Center College of Design, high above Pasadena, Altadena, and La Canada-Flintridge. One of the things I love about the Ham Community is that it is chock full of really brainy people! I've participated and visited more than a few Field Day sites in my 12 years of being a Ham and being married to one, and this was one of the most well organized and smartly coordinated group of stations I had ever seen. Jim Marr (AA6QI) who happens to be a JPL engineer, created an elaborate filter system so that the individual stations were not cross pollinating and stepping over each other's transmissions. For non-tech folks, that is HUGE, especially for a contesting weekend. Hubby @kg6dny asked me to bring my award-winning Chili to the potluck, and I happily obliged. I arrived a tad early to get a look at the UHF/VHF station that Lynn was spearheading, Solar Telescopes and DX, and of course, the CW (morse code) station. On my bucket list is to try harder to learn this language. It was a fun few hours of chatting with Hams who I didn't know, like Mark Siegel (W6MES), and old friends like John Minger (AV6VV), and Eric Christensen (K6EJC). I also got to enjoy some gorgeous views of the Rose Bowl, Old Town Pasadena, Downtown Pasadena, and the San Gabriel Mountains. We ate so well that I took home some killer desserts (all homemade), including my favorite Carrot Cake! Just downed a delicious piece of Pecan Mocha Pie with my coffee, and it was divine. Field Day continues until 11 a.m. this morning, so you have a few hours to support your local Hams by going by a Field Day site to transmit on a GOTA (Get on the Air) station. If you are a Ham, get on your radio and make contact! It's all in good fun. #fieldday2019 #arrlfieldday2019 #pasadenaamateurradioclub #pasadenaamateur #radiogeeks #radiofun #amateurradio #hamradio #yl #itsahamslife (at ArtCenter College of Design) https://www.instagram.com/p/BzDuORkHkAX/?igshid=y7bzoomnn1th
