One of our vets also works at another shelter. That shelter doesn't have an xray machine, so she brought a kitten with her today to get some rads.
Last year, while dealing with Snapdragon, I told her how in my experience when the throat on a kitten is inflating like a bullfrog, about 8 to 9 times out of 10, it's megaesophagus.
This kitten is a poor eater, and the throat was bulging out when he got excited/upset/etc.
The way to diagnose is a barium swallow, so that's what she had me do.
Immediately post 5cc of a barium+A/D+water mixture:
5 minutes later :
Even the immediate films show abnormalities, but at 5 minutes past being syringed a mere 5cc the esophagus should be empty. And because the bulging is below the big veins and arteries coming from the heart it's not a PRAA (persistent right aortic arch).
