Mememtum at spanish radio station RadioSabadell
On Monday November 18, 2013, spanish radio station RadioSabadell interviewed José Luis Marina, Taniwa CEO and one of the promoters of Mememtum. We felt very comfortable and enjoyed enormously by the professionalism of journalists and interviewer. Some of the things you can hear in the interview at the end of this post (if you understand Spanish) are: - Mememtum is an application that, through a film of a patient, is able to track some diseases such as Parkinson's disease, Huntington's disease, Wilson's disease, Tourette's syndrome, dystonia and severe essential tremor. - The video source can be from any device : camera, SmartTV , tablet , smarpthone ... but the application that is now released and available for purchase through Google Play for Android devices helps the user in recording and sending the video to the servers where are the applied computer vision algorithms. The application is called Mememtum Mini and costs 2.90€ ($3.9 aprox)
- Mememtum intends to solve a major medical problem : "Neurologists do not have precise tools that provide them objective data about the tremors and the state of a patient." Is not an easy task for the human brain to accurately record small changes in images (or videos) through time , this is where computer vision for health is particularly brilliant. It's hard to imagine a doctor who controls the temperatur putting his hand on the forehead of a patient instead of using a thermometer , the same happens in the case of movement disorders; Mememtum offers a "number" that represents the amount of tremor. - When making a video with Mememtum you have to select any of the signs, that are associated with certain recording sessions what are defined by neurologists . Currently , for head tremor are 2 sessions of 10 seconds long : 1. - Be quiet and do nothing 2 . - Count up - More than 100 patients have been recorded and analyzed with Mememtum in medical studies , and in patients with Huntington 's disease can help in early detection. There is a scientific study in progress that aims to demonstrate this. - José Luis Marina reveals in this interview that the following Mememtum developments are centered on 3D stereoscopic cameras , such as Microsoft's Kinect , which allows to analyze the movements of the whole body in real time.
