Please don't make fun of me (because I am your girlfriend) but I can't remember their name for sure, but I want to send an ask, the character thingy- you wanna do the empress from Dishonored?
I would love to talk about the empress from Dishonored, one Jessamine Kaldwin (and of course I wouldn’t make fun of you!) Thank you so much for the ask, love!
First Impression: I knew absolutely nothing about Jessamine going into the game, but I was immediately attached. I loved seeing her interactions with Corvo and Emily, it was obvious she genuinely loved them both. Jess’s death really is such a good driving factor for the rest of the actions in the game too--Corvo needed to set things right not only for Emily, but for her too.
Impression Now: This one hasn’t changed a lot, I still love her character. We don’t get to learn a lot about her compared to some others, but you can tell she really loved her family and she seemed to genuinely care for her people as the empress. It makes me a little sad too how Corvo and Emily had to go on without her, and then one or the other had to say goodbye yet again (after only just getting to sorta have her presence in their life) through the Heart.
Favorite Moment: While its a sad moment too, I think my favorite might be how Jess fights back when Daud comes after her. If I recall correctly, she just slaps him and/or shoves him away, I just think it was a really neat aspect of her character that she was able to do that rather than trying to run or just watching it all go down. It’s also a favorite since I think it shows how she’s so protective of Emily, trying to save her daughter at all costs.
Idea for a Story: Uh, story idea... I have lots of thoughts about Dishonored characters, but not blanking and losing all coherent thought when I need a story idea is an interesting challenge. Anyways. I’d love to see something about Jessamine and Corvo a few years after Emily was born. Just them getting a private evening to themselves where they can be a happy family without worrying. They play games and read stories with Emily and just get to be happy together. Either that, or they all get an actual free day together. I could definitely see them playing with Emily in the tower gardens, or having a tea party, and then later sitting down and drawing together. Corvo teaches a tiny Emily to climb some smaller obstacles with his help. Jess pretends to disapprove and scold them for doing so, but is honestly just happy to watch the two bond. (She would probably regret that later, however, when Emily gets a bit too good at hiding rather than attending her lessons.) I’d just like to see them be a happy family.
Unpopular Opinion: I’m bad at this unpopular opinion question... I’m sure it’s not that I don’t have any unpopular opinions, but rather, I just can’t think of anything I know to be unpopular right off hand?
Favorite Relationship: I think I’m gonna have to say CorvoJess here. Corvo and Jessamine so clearly love one another. And I love that they made their relationship work because it made them happy, they didn’t let any obstacles get in the way. Said relationship being between the empress and her bodyguard, something I imagine the nobility wouldn’t readily approve of, makes for a very interesting element as well. Though I do wish, for them, that they had been given the change to genuinely, openly, be a happy family.
Favorite Headcanon: Jessamine could always make time for Emily, no matter how busy she was. As empress, she couldn’t always just drop everything, but at the end of each day, Jess would make a point to spend time with Emily. She’d ask about Emily’s day and if she had drawn anything, always listening intently. Most of the hours spent together that way were lighthearted, but they had serious conversations too. Jess would give Emily life lessons, particularly about how to address hard decisions she might have to make in the future. Jessamine did her best to make sure Emily had a relatively normal childhood while still preparing her for the responsibilities she’d one day face.
