MOLASAR
When the television series Silver Kamen Giant was cancelled, Rohm Alien spent the next several years looking for a regular gig until director Michael Mann cast him as Radu Molasar in The Keep (1983):
The final form of Radu Molasar, the evil entity trapped inside The Keep (1983).
Saw this in the theaters at the time, and was confused as heck. It felt like an unfinished film that was slapped together and rushed into theaters long before being finished.
That was before I learned that the original version from writer/director Michael Mann was 210 minutes long. The studio, Paramount Pictures, demanded a 120-minute cut for theatrical release. When that version tested terribly with audiences, the film was further cut to 96 minutes, which was then released to the theaters.
A film missing two hours of content? No wonder I was confused by all the plot holes and continuity errors. Of course, the soundtrack by Tangerine Dream, which was louder than the dialogue, and totally incongruous with the story, didn't help either.
Regardless, I'd be interested in seeing it again if the full director's cut was released, to see the story as it was originally intended.
Or I guess I could just read the original 1981 novel by F. Paul Wilson, or the 2006 graphic novel adaptation he wrote.
