Sad news. Bellator middleweight champ Rafael Lovato Jr will be out indefinitely due to “cavernous malformations” in his brain.

Cavernous malformations, also known as cavernomas, are described by Johns Hopkins University to be “an abnormal cluster of capillaries and venules (tiny blood vessels) that periodically bleed and give rise to a “popcorn-like” lesion in the brain or spinal cord with very thin walls that contains blood of different ages.

Whether or not he ever fights again, I just hope he turns out all right.

Rafael Lovato Jr. upsets Gegard Mousasi

Rafael Lovato Jr. just became a top ten middleweight and the new Bellator MW champion. Was a classic striker vs grappler match up. Lovato Jr, who is effing huge, got Mousasi down and managed to hold him there. Didn’t really threaten for a sub or get a ton of GnP (except the third) but he was manhandling Gegard on the ground. On the feet, Mousasi won handedly. Even managed to drop Lovato in the 4th. He didn’t follow it up though and ended up letting Lovato rally in the 5th round.
