Odessa’s small legs ran up the stairs as quickly as possible. She had balanced a plate of chocolate chip cookies in one hand and a glass of milk in the other. She had begged her father to let the two of them have a sleepover despite it being a school night, and after much pleading, he finally gave in and allowed it. 

She nudged open the door with her foot as she fought to keep the plate steady. She finally managed to put it down on the floor before she placed the glass of milk in between them. Odessa took a chunk of the cookie and dipped it into the liquid before popping it into her mouth— a grin taking over her face despite the missing front tooth she sported. She motioned towards the cookies after she licked her chocolate-covered fingers.

“Dad said you could spend the night. You can borrow some of my clothes to sleep in.”

She took another cookie before repeating her process of dipping it into the milk, popping it into her mouth, and cleaning up the mess afterwards. When the two girls finished up the snack, Odessa scooted forward and allowed her arms to wrap around Rafaella’s small frame. Her head rested on the girl’s shoulder as a content sigh escaped her lips.

“We’ll always be friends— right Ella? You and me versus the world?”

1. What does their bedroom look like?

It is very orderly - minimalistic furniture but not open concept. Grace likes to have a lot of storage and to be able to put things away. She keeps things very neat but is not fastidious enough to warrant just having piles of clothes on shelves in the open rather than organized within the drawer. She has a double bed (it’s a small apartment and she lives alone) with a simple black metal frame, and all of her furniture matches in either black or white. She keeps a small desk in the corner opposite her bed with a small mirror and jewelry organizer atop it. It’s not particularly well-decorated, mostly due to the lack of decorations, but she has a few tasteful drawings because completely blank walls was a bit too clinical. 9. Makeup?

Grace loves a good red lipstick, but often leaves the house with minimal makeup - generally just eyeliner and concealer when needed. She’s gotten very good at applying makeup and has a fair amount, so she knows how to use it to her advantage when getting dressed up for events or special occasions. 

13. Sexual Orientation? And, regardless of own orientation, thoughts on sexual orientation in general?

Grace is bisexual & demiromantic, though she does not really think about it. She’ll sleep with anyone she finds attractive, but rarely feels a connection to someone beyond the physical. If she is to build a romantic relationship with someone, she must have a deep connection to and trust in them, something that she shies away from. She generally doesn’t care about people’s sexual orientations, mostly because she really doesn’t need or want to hear about other people’s romantic entanglements.

18. Favorite beverage?

A simple espresso with a small bit of honey. It’s easy to make and easy to get, while also being relatively difficult to do poorly.

27. What is their biggest regret?

Grace doesn’t really regret many things - she’s very forward-oriented and self-centered, taking the best route for herself to gain the most power or prestige that she can. If she was to regret one thing, it would be not acknowledging the power of political strategy earlier. When she first joined the Capulets she was all about moving up through physical displays of power - now, having seen the success of others and learned from her more tactically-minded peers, she’s more inclined to take a more cerebral role. She’ll be the muscle, but she’ll also play the mental games.

So this is ambrosia.

So this is madness, come for them all.

So this is love, beating in her chest like everything she’s tried to leave behind, returning to punish her. It’s the last thing she intends to feel for Rafaella; it’s the last thing she expects of herself, for all the bravery and love she is capable of. How do you love a monster? How do you hold its name in your mouth without cracking your own teeth? How do you hold a monster’s hand and brace the shattering of your bones at the very touch?

Far be it from Maeve to have an answer, but she tries anyway.

“Rafaella?” she breathes, sitting on the bed Rafaella is curled up in. “Rafaella —  I’m here.” She takes the girl’s hand, limp and lifeless, and presses it to her own cheek. As if to transfer the warmth in her cheeks to Rafaella’s skin and remind her that there are living things in this world that would wilt and wither without her.

“Come back to me, mia sorella.” My sister. “See me.” She wants the bite and she wants the iron. She wants Rafaella’s eyes flashing at the sight of Maeve’s open wounds and that infuriating raise of her brow whenever Maeve says the wrong thing.

Anything is better than this — this half-hearted, watered down version of the lioness Maeve, despite all of her resistance and that stubborn heart, loves.

She curls up beside Rafaella, who mumbles quietly and incoherently, and kisses the back of Rafaella’s hand. “Mia sorella, return to me.” She pushes Rafaella’s curls back and kisses the forehead beneath the wild strands. “Do you think Orion will survive losing you again? Do you think I’ll forgive you for leaving me, again?”

Yes — of course they will. It’s how you love monsters and demons and beautiful, awful girls who take a bite of your heart when you’re not looking: stupidly, with a great deal of aching and empty threats like these.

she’s been to the museum all of twice. it’s not to be said that she doesn’t enjoy the arts, that she’s not a patron, but subtlety within a city like verona means purposeful avoidance until the time has come to step into the light. after nearly two years spent in shadows, it’s... almost refreshing to walk about the statues like this, admire the sculptures of human perfection and read the plaques up on the walls next to paintings. baroque art, she decides, staring at a replication of something by andrea pozzo, certainly isn’t her favorite.

she’s not here for the art. it’s obvious in the way she rushes on past the sculptures and paintings. she’s not giving them the attention they deserve; it is with a single minded purpose that she asks a frazzled looking girl who might work here if there’s someone she can speak to about an interview at noon. she stutters out an answer and tells loretta right this way, and that is how loretta delucci finds herself standing in front of the one and only rafaella capulet.

rafaella capulet, the not-daughter of one of the bloodiest families in perhaps the world. rafaella capulet, holding herself with poise and grace as if she is being scrutinized at every moment. rafaella capulet, brought into the fold under what can only be described as mysterious circumstances.

rafaella capulet, beautiful. striking in every manner from the way she stands to how her eyes move about the room to the way her chest rises and falls with every breath. loretta finds herself both fascinated and incessantly pleased that things are going exactly to plan.

she’s rich. she could be richer than the wealthiest man in the world, and they wouldn’t even know it. she doesn’t need this job, a position as the marketing-consultant-slash-graphics-designer for a place whose owners had died by hanging not even a month ago. her lips curve into a smile. it’s been long overdue. the time for introductions, it seems, is now. “ciao. my name is loretta delluci -- i’m here for an interview. the email said to be here at noon.” it’s 11:59am, and she couldn’t feel better about it.

Boris was done.

He’d been finished with the night even before it’d began, but to be the ‘perfect Montague’ meant playing the part to a ‘T’, and Boris was nothing if not horribly efficient at his job  Even if it meant enduring a night of watching his fellow Montagues, and the fallible Capulets fall all over themselves in drugged elation. Waiting on the precipice for the Witches’s decision to bring it all crashing down on their heads. In all honesty, it was that moment he was waiting for with bated breath, and with every ticking second, he was another step closer to finding out what the judgment would be.

Pulling off the wolf mask, he let the straps dangle from his fingers as he gave himself a few minutes to breathe outside. It was as incredible as the rest of the building, as the lavish lifestyle of the Families were meant to be, but it wasn’t anything he’d seen countless times before, in countless cities. Even before he’d gained his black mark, he’d been one of the more sought out Emissaries, especially with the Eastern European countries, and once you’d seen one lavish courtyard, in Boris’s opinion, you’d seen them all.

The night was ticking closer to that fateful hour, he just had to keep on keeping on, and was moments from replacing his mask and returning to the fray when an almost familiar laugh tinkled through the leaves near him. The laughter was followed after some racing, stumbling steps, and it was only the quick work of his reflexes, and the fact that he had only ingested his own drink, that kept her from slipping and taking an impromptu dunk in the pond. “Careful,” It took a moment to recognize who was in his arms beneath the mask and finery, but he’d known her long enough to recognize Rafaella anywhere, “You’ll ruin your dress.”

kills the spider - rafaella. daphne will scream and ask for rafaella to kill the spiders for her. after raf gets spider goop on her nails, daphne goes ham on buying anti-spider traps and sprays. to prove she’s Tough, daphne once tries to let the spider get close to her to show that she Doesn’t Care, but she very much does. 

proposed - daphne! she plans a very cute low-key proposal while they’re vacation on lake como. maybe she gets a bit too choked up to actually pop the question.

kissed the other first - rafaella! soon after daphne gets into the cap’s, they go dancing and rafaella kisses her and to this day daphne considers it a proper miracle that no paps caught it on camera. 

initiates things - rafaella. daphne’s more cool about pda and probably wears a lot of scarves in april to hide hickeys

would leave the other - probably rafaella, but i could see daphne catching wind of rafaella breaking her heart, so she decides to break rafaella’s heart. or raf does something that daphne just can’t reconcile, so she leaves.

is more jealous - rafaella??

is lazier - probably daphne, but let’s be honest, they both should be vacationing in a tuscan vineyard and attending fashion shows instead of doing Mob Shit. they’re both the other’s trophy wife. 

sends weird texts at 3 AM - whenever raf doesn’t come home (without first telling daphne that she won’t be home that night), daphne sends rafaella a couple of Weird but Specific Texts. 35% of their texts are daphne asking rafaella to pick up milk since she’s coming home late. 

is more experienced - rafaella, probably?? 

said i love you first - to daphne’s surprise, rafaella. it takes daphne a hair too long to respond just because of the shock.
