at my last convention (Trotcon) I co-ran a panel called "My Ship is Better Than Your Ship", where we picked volunteers from the audience and generated random romantic pairings. the chosen audience member then had to defend their ship against their opponent's pairing. it was a lot of fun, and we ended up with a lot of interesting rarepairs!

this is probably the most "normal" pairing we got, all things considered.
