A BRO-FELONY. That’s right Lukas, tell him!!! Also, it’s interesting to me how the faults in the way view relationships as shown in this chapter (i.e. their queerphobia and sexism) weirdly complements each other’s. Like, Lukas assumes that a boy and a girl being friends and playing games together must mean that there’s something romantic between them, and Kai rightfully argues that that’s really not always the case, that girls and boys can literally just be friends and have platonic relationships. But Kai also fails to recognize Emily’s feelings on the matter as something to consider precisely because she’s a girl—i.e. his “She’s a girl! How did I break the bro-code?” and “You think that’s why she’s been acting all crazy?” (duh!)—despite the fact that they’re close friends (best friends even!), all while Lukas immediately figures out the reason why she’s mad and why it’s important to consider her feelings. They’re making each other better people, in a weird way.
