RAGLAN CASTLE
Sketch of Raglan Castle which I sketched on location in 2017 while I was travelling in Wales. Now in 2023 I’m settled in Wales and finally got this sketch hung up on the wall. 六年前我在威爾斯旅遊時的速寫作品。六年後今日作品掛在我威爾斯家中牆上。

We went to my favourite Welsh castle today! 🥰
Raglan Castle, in Monmouthshire, was built in the 15th century by the Herbert family (later the Earls of Pembroke), and passed to the Somerset family (later the Dukes of Beaufort) in the early 16th century. It was a luxurious castle, and has seen many notable events and visitors in it's time. Most significantly, during the English Civil War, it hosted a young King Charles II (then the Prince of Wales) who won the castle on behalf of the Royalist cause of his father, King Charles I. However, it was taken by the Parliamentarians in 1646 and deliberately ruined by Cromwell's forces to put it out of military use. Upon the Restoration of King Charles II, the Somerset family declined to repair it and it has been a romantic ruin ever since.
